Heard something earlier about CD's and MP3's ripped from them can be left in a will, but songs bought from Itunes can't, some US legal shit going on with it now. Not sure if that's related.

Sounds about right. When you buy a song on iTunes, it's only playable on that person's iTunes account and devices synced to that Apple ID. You can't transfer purchased songs to other Apple IDs.
