I'd like to hear your thoughts, opinions, suggestions on the first 3 or so minutes of my symphony, so that I can make it better as I continue composing it.

The bass/cello line at the beginning works well. The picking is decent. I'm not so much a fan of the opening melody line by the clarinet. It gets better when the strings come in. At this point I assume you're doing this all on a Triton or something of the sort.
As the second part begins, some of the runs are ok, though the sounds used are subpar. The part before the finish is ok. Really not that bad at all. I almost think it would sound better just using a couple instraments though, as opposed to the range of noises you use. Not bad, I look forward to hearing it when it is complete. |

I'm impressed. I'm assuming it's for U396 Intro to computer/MIDI music. I know how difficult that stuff is to do. You've done a good job putting together several layers of solid melodies. The rythm is for the most part interesting and not static and the are a good number of little nuances further in that set the melody off and give it unique twists. The one suggestion I do have is that the bass line in the beginning stayed solid for too long. It's seems like you loose yourself in the higher frequency insruments and neglect the bass the accompanying bass line. Overall, I'm impressed. Again, I know how hard that can be to do. What program did you use? Finale?
