I'm currently working at Kandahar Airfield (KAF) and have spent a lot of time here the past two years. KAF is rocketed by insurgents on a regular basis, the frequency probably averaging three times a week. A rocket attack is typically a non-event, as these mother fuckers don't really aim at anything in particular and only point the rockets in the direction of the massive airfield in the middle of the desert. Getting hit or hurt by a rocket would be like getting struck by lightning, in terms of odds. However, tonight, I was sitting outside of my living area with a coworker/buddy sipping on some bootlegged whiskey, and a rocket landed and detonated less than 100 meters away. No one I'm associated with was hurt but the adjacent compound was hit directly. It was so close. My SCotD is that I was legitimately shaken up, and am even more compelled to quit my job.

I realize you've probably never been in too many dangerous situations, but the fact that he and everyone else got out fine makes dangerous situations great stories after the fact. Tons of shit is potentially dangerous in life, and tons of situations end in tragedy. This one in particulary didn't, because he got lucky.
Surviving dangerous situations because of luck is badass. |

The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. |

SCotD: I never knew you could expand the area where you type comments like this:

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

Wow.
Anyway, SCotD: I was driving home from school today when I noticed a guy in an adjacent lane digging deep, DEEP, in his nose. As I went to make the obligatory index finger point/visual LOL--which universally is understood as, "caught you!"--I realized that I was subconsciously, also picking my nose. The real SCotD: This is the second time this has happened to me. |
Creeping around as I please nonchalantly like any other Supreme Emperor might.

IM can you please change your avatar? I read that post 3 times in disbelief that Gaz would post something so shitty and racked my brain trying to figure out where/why he is in school.
