I don't really have any other purpose for starting this thread, other than that I wanted to post this video, which I found pretty informative. At the same time, I feel having, at least, a good understanding of the different aspects of law is probably a smart thing. So if anyone else has tidbits of advice or information on how to not get fucked over legally, it now has a place.

I think a lot of people (probably not on this board, but in general) feel that talking to the police when you're innocent is a good thing, hell, t might even be better to talk if you're guilty. I recall television shows, such as Cops, showing police officers talking to suspects and saying things like, "If you just tell me the truth everything will be much easier for you." The suspect usually confesses and the officer arrests them with seeming gentleness, care, and sympathy. The viewer is left thinking that it was good he told truth. On the other hand, these types of shows will often show a suspect who lies and is then arrested in much harsher fashion, with no sympathy from the officers. The viewer is then left thinking, he should have just told the truth.

Sure, I've known for a long time now that if I'm guilty to never talk to the police, but what I didn't know is that, even if I'm innocent and have a valid alibi, I should still never talk to the police.

I kind of feel like this video reinforces a personal philosophy that I've been developing since I was basically expelled from school nearly 8 years ago. The philosophy is simple: never admit to anything. I strongly believe that if I (and my P.I.C.) had denied everything, and not admitted to shit, that we would have been punished much less severely and would have probably been spared the public humiliation of getting caught.

Along the lines of denying everything and admitting nothing: I got a two week suspension for gleeking in a kid's face talked down to a Friday school by denying, denying, and denying some more.

Fact: Most common response to cops when they ask, "have you been drinking?"

"I've had two beers."

This translates to, "I'm shitfaced," whether you've actually had two beers, or twenty.

Better answer: "Not at all officer, I was just on my way to raise money for the Sheriff's Department."

I've been stopped once and said I had three. I probably had around six. I was driving home from the bar, had two friends in the car, and an underage girl. The underage girl tried to hide her fake ID under her leg when the officer asked for it. The officer saw her tried to hide it and she denied it 3 times until finally caving and giving it to him.

He let me go after doing a sobriety test by flashing a light in my eyes and having me follow it. Didn't even have to get out of he car. He only confiscated her ID. Feel pretty lucky to this day.

My girlfriend and I each got a public intox charge a year or two ago, but there was no hiding that we were drunk. They found us passed out in the back seat of the car with our pants undone and the door hanging wide open.

They didn't appreciate her informing them the degree of douchelike assmongers she believed them to be, nor my drunken sarcasm when answering the 'have you been drinking?' question, my reply being, "Well obviously, if I was drinking Tang, this wouldn't be happening". I was nearly blackout drunk, I'm pretty sure I was pushing a .20 on the breathalyzer. Makes for a good story now but it sucked at the time...at least I got laid.

So you say never admit to drinking. Does that mean if pulled over you should lie and say not at all? Becaus according to cuzintino in that video, you can go to jail for that.

Sadly, this is true. If I'm ever going to be in a situation where I'm going to be taking a sworn statement, the odds are pretty high that I'm going to have an attorney present.

I've been exceptionally lucky when it comes to law enforcement encounters. Especially considering my history of driving while intoxicated with various forms of contraband in my possession and committing acts of vandalism, I'm very lucky to have never been in jail. I have had a few embarrassing blunders due to those activities, but none of them ended with me going to jail or any type of police encounters whatsoever. Thankfully I don't do that shit anymore.

Ive been to jail twice on public intox, no D&D though.

I drank and drove tonight, I'll never learn until I get my first DUI, maybe. Future potential punishment has been shown in many studies to be completely ineffective.

I wonder what the actual numbers are for Drinking and driving being a % more dangerous vs. driving in general. I'll bet its negligible.

Yea gotta be pretty negligible up to like .2 BAC. After that you start dealing with people blacking out and stuff which seems like it's prob pretty dangerous.

BAC is obviously going to be the most important factor there... if it's just in regard to having an open container, you're probably right.

to think that the % difference in the change in driving ability when drunk vs sober being negligible is pretty laughable.

I was rather unruly during the entire process because I though it was bullshit that they pulled me off a friends porch for public intox. I tried to pull some MacGyver moves including breaking up a styrofoam cup into pieces and covering the jail cell camera in an attempt to escape.

I was once jailed for stealing cases of pepsi from the front of a gas station, via pulling up drunk and simply loading them into the backseat. It was my second trip of the night that got me.
