Pliedes, I think I have a pretty good suggestion for you. Next time you're down in the lab when she's there, walk up and tell her you like the flower in her hair but, that's not why you came up to talk to her. Tell her that you think she has a beautiful smile, then ask her what she's working on down there all the time. There might be an akward moment in there somewhere but, just smile when you stumble and keep going. When she tells you about the work she's doing ask her about her goals/dreams/ambitions etc. Bet you a hundred bucks her eyes will light right up. Everybody appreciates someone who is genuinely interested in them. Listen to her for a while, then just let your natural charm go and from there I'm sure you'll have no problem.

Not a bad idea, but.....fuck, isn't that a bit forward? I mean, if I were this girl, the obvious answer to "What are you always working on in here?" would be "Homework. What else? Seriously....".

With this suggestion, you're automatically assuming that she will

A) Be an all around nice and understanding girl. These days....it's really hard to find those.

b) That she's not in a big hurry to get what she's working on done. If she is, you going up and asking her about her dreams/life/goals is going to be a major pain in the ass. Then you've just killed your chances, not just this time, but for probably the rest of your life.

It's such a thin line. It sucks, but I'd rely upon eye contact. Once that eye contact is made, make a little smile and such.

Or you could give it time and then make your move, which would make the "I always see you in here" move much more founded and a good thing to say.

Either way, Pli, even if you don't want to have something with this girl or not, it's good training, and we're expecting that by the end of this year, you will have made contact.

You can do it bud.

Forward? Naw, not if you're polite about it. From the get go she's going to have the suspicion that you're interested in her. But, that's okay. As long as you're friendly genuine the likelihood is that she'll enjoy some light conversation with her homework. And hell, if the girl smiles as much as Pliedes has mentioned she's probably a pretty gregarious chick anyway.

I do agree with your point A. It is hard to find a good girl these days. Especially with a lot of guys being the dicks that they are. But, the more you go up and ask the better feel you will get for what girls are on your wavelength and which ones aren't.

About point B. Even if she is kinda in a hurry to get her homework done so she can go hang out with her friends, I don't think anyone would be really weirded or offended by a quick compliment. If she does look like she's in a hurry that may be the best time to catch her. Just a quick charming little 'I just wanted to say that I really like your flower' (then flash your best winning smile). That way you've peaked her interest without disturbing her. You can always look her up again sometime when she's not so busy.

Eye contact. VERY good. Excellent point Combat Chuck. And you're right again, it is a fine line. Something that helps push that line in your favor tho is confidence. Show your confidence with your eye contact. ANd yeah, Smiles work wonders.

If things do progress, a good way to keep things going is definately through asking about her goals/dreams etc. You can always reach down in your bag of tricks for that if there's need of a new subject to make sure the conversation contiunes.

It's good to finally be graced with your presence Chan.

I think your advice for Pliedes would probably work out. She seems like a very down to Earth girl, who's not going to get into a fuss for bothering her or complimenting her. Not to mention girls almost always can do with a compliment or two. Being the off-beat 80's-looking flower-wearing chick she is, I don't think she'd be weirded out or annoyed at a bit of charm and genuine interest.

Now if we could only find a set of large enough stones for Pliedes, we could get this mission underway.
