Parks and Recreation is the new show that's somewhere between the Office and 30 Rock. It's about a small city govt department in (fictional) Pawnee, IN. The writers did scouting for the show by visiting Lafayette, IN, but apparently they also have a strong affinity for Bloomington's Upland beer.
A couple weeks ago whilst watching episode #4 I noticed that the characters who were casually drinking beer were holding bottles with green and purple labels....an odd color combination but immediately reminded me of the local Dragonfly IPA. A later shot confirmed my suspicions when I clearly saw the six-pack box sitting on a table. I took some shitty screen captures from Hulu.... ![]() ![]() Anyway, I found that pretty cool and was gonna post about it on here, but after a day or two it didn't seem like that big a deal. Then today I watch the newest episode (#6) in which the characters are drinking at a local bar/rock show. An fade in shot starts on a series of Upland Taps and fades to a shot of the main character played by Amy Poehler. ![]() ![]() Pretty fucking cool, eh? And great advertising for a great Indiana business. And it didn't stop there, later on in the episode the main characters close out the bar whilst drinking, of course, Upland beer. This time featuring the Pale Ale, recently re-branded as "Helios Pale Ale". Same beer, new look, but the what an opportunity to plug it on national television! ![]() ![]() Parks & Recreation was already a pretty decent show, but this "it's a small world" product placement really made me smile. The show writers are definitely cool people. |

100%
There are no likable characters on the show. At least with the office Michael Scott has an underlying likability to him even though he is a complete idiot, Amy Poehler just comes across as an average dumb woman with little to no discernible talent in a job that she obtained partly because nobody wanted it and partly her looks. |
