Does anyone know of some good places to find a reliable cheap car? I'm willing to use the internet if the deal is good enough. My budget is in the $3,000 range, give or take, and I'd like whatever it is to be a 4 door.

3,000 is going to be tough to get a super reliable car. With 3,000 down, I could get you low payments on something that will actually last. I could get you a cheap ass trade in, but we sale those as is, so if it breaks down in a day, you are fucked.

I'm not getting involved in any payment plans or anything. I am determined to find a car within that range. I was in the process of getting a '99 Subaru Forester, but some fuckheads snatched it up from under me.

02 Ford Focus. 3000 + tax. No Warrenty/No gap.

To be honest Gaz, I wouldn't advise anyone to purchase back row from any car lot. They are sold as is, and will have problems sooner rather then later. I would put 3,000 down and get a 10,000 car and purchase the best warranty package that the dealership offers. ( The one they will start you off will is a complete rip off.)

Fruit, why don't you buy a motorcycle? You could get a decent deal on a 250-500 CC used for very cheap, have much less to worry about on the maintenance end (cost and complication-wise, although small things break more frequently), you could save money on gas/insurance, and plus driving a motorcycle is badass as hell.

You can just sell it when winter rolls around and buy another vehicle with the money you've saved and the money from the bike. I had a motorcycle as my sole transportation in AZ for like 10 months, it was fucking awesome.

The Forester had about 150k on it, but only had one previous owner, a local schoolteacher, and it was in great shape. What's the story with that Focus? I can't be getting into any payment plans or anything, because full coverage insurance on top of my monthly payments will cost far more than repairs I could make on a car that I own downright in the long run. Also, if I own it in full, I won't have any fears of reposession if my financial situation takes a sour turn.

As for a motorcycle Blonde, I've always wanted one, but I need something that both my girlfriend and I can use. That fact has made it more difficult, because I've found some great cars ('02 Jetta for one) but can't consider it because she can't drive stick and replacing a clutch that soon is something I have no desire to do.

it came from the wife's grandma, she bought it new shortly before she was put in a home. we got it in january w/ 24k on it. I drive it back and forth to work a few times a week and we use it for longer solo trips b/c it gets better gas mileage than any of our other cars... including a honda prelude that's for sale too.
