I do not support lowering the age anything less than 18. Too many clueless kids just vote the way their parents do in such a mindless way. At least give them a chance to move out and have an opportunity to find their individualism.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

I wish it was argued by somebody other than her, but I agree. Take the voting age way up.

The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. |

I broke a 3 month weed sobriety this weekend. I missed this. Although, I think I've spoiled myself, because I've only been smoking really really good buds thus far, which has set the buzz standard pretty high...heh.

Most people under 26 still have their parrents implicitly backing them. And I don't know a single under 26 year old with a massive tax bill.

I assume you were exempt for the year prior to that, but even still I'm sure that was a difficult check to write. I paid almost identical taxes that year. About $15k or so during and a $45 at the end. ROBBERY.

Sorry, but you all sound absurd.
I don't like the results it gets, but not letting an 18 year old vote is ethically wrong. Nothing in particular about the age 18, but once we decide on an age of majority, that is the age of majority, and that means the voting age. The reasoning behind wanting to raise the voting age, amongst most of us, is to protect individual freedoms, in this case financial freedom. However, you can't take away individual freedom in the name of individual freedom. |

What? Who says age of majority = voting age?? We don't trust 18 yr olds to have a beer or two but we trust them to elect our president? That's absurd, and I mean that in the sense that I don't trust 18 year olds to vote or drink. Being a legal adult doesn't at all make you an actual adult.

Second, the actual world, as you put it, doesn't matter. We are a society of laws and rights, voting is a right in our country. Honestly, if you are against legal adults voting, you are against self-determination. Funny how we all want to raise the age to the approximate age of everybody on here, because now we really get it . Ask your 55 year old self how much you knew and they will likely respond "fuck all." The self-obsession is obvious.

18 is too young for people to go to war also. I'm not sure where we got this notion that 18 is the magic age where we're emotionally/intellectually developed enough to do certain things and not others. Prior to 18 we're victims of sex, post 18 we're sexual predators. I think there should be an adult test you have to pass. Once you pass it you can vote, go to war, drive (yeah I said it, 16 year olds are something like 3X more likely to get into accidents), and no longer are allowed to have sex with 15 year olds.

Really? You are out of your god damned mind. 18 year olds ARE RETARDED. Clinically. Almost all of them. Most 21 year olds are too. They're just staaaaaarting to kind of get the fact that they don't get it yet. I suppose you want the minimum presidency age lowered to 18 also?

Sure, if people want an 18 year old president, which is absurd and a total non-starter, lets do that.

I don't even know what that last sentence means but if you're implying that the U.S. would be in better shape if we lowered the drinking age, I'm all ears as to why.

We would be in better shape because we wouldn't have an absurd policy of not allowing adults to decide if drinking is fine for them. Not to even get into the real world problems created by underage drinking because of the abnormally high drinking age. We would at worst have the same drinking problems we do know, but at least have a consistent and coherent stance on personal freedom and rights.
