Help DJ FC find a car
I'm looking to buy a car within the next few months. I'm almost done with the licensing process and should (cross my fingers) be a fully licensed driver this week. Who wants to give me some suggestions for finding a cool car? I'm willing to shop around and look quite a bit.
My budget is under ₤20,000. And that's a very firm upper limit. Here are 3 cars I looked at recently that sparked my interest: 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Convertable w/ 59,000 miles Pros: 5 Liter Engine. Convertable German Sexy Cons: Top end of the price range (asking 20k) 2 seater only 2002 Mercedes-Benz SL500 AMG w/ 40,000 miles Pros 5L Engine Sexy German Better sytling Less miles Cons: 2002 2 seats only Top end of the price range (asking 20k) 2006 Jeep Commander w/ 35,000 miles Pros: SUV, great for roadtrips 5.7L V8 HEMI Sexy, American Much cheaper - asking price is 14k Cons: Very little The appeal of a badass Mercedes with a convertable top is great. But so far I think the cheaper American SUV is ever so slightly winning. But it's only 60-40 so far. Can anybody give me any ideas which might supercede these two cars? |

You've always seemed like an SUV guy. I vote door #3. That truck is sick, and the interior looks much nicer than both other options.
Why are all of the steering wheels on the wrong side? It's going to kind of suck to always have to have a passenger on board to drive it. |

When factoring cost, do remember the Jeep is going to fuck you much harder in the gas department and probably end up costing you the same (or maybe more) in the long-run, if you drive a decent amount.

Yes. I'm aware I'll spend more on gas w/ the SUV. But I won't be driving these cars every day so gas isn't as big an issue as insurance even.
Here are the links for the 3 I've posted so far. But I'm not attached to these AT ALL, that's why I made this tread, I'm looking for ideas and inspiration: 2005 MERCEDES-BENZ SL CLASS SL 500 [7] 2DR TIP AUTO PANORAMIC ROOF 2002 MERCEDES-BENZ SL CLASS SL500 AUTOMATIC AMG BODY STYLING 2006 JEEP COMMANDER 5.7 V8 HEMI LIMITED AUTO SATNAV 20 STARTECH ALLOYS |

Couldn't you get a brand fucking new E class or M class for the same price. I have a 2000 s500 with 250,000 miles on it. Never a problem, and no car payment since 2003.
Also, I'm presuming you're paying cash. Otherwise, you wouldn't look at used cars now. Would you? |

I will be paying cash.
AP, that's why I made this thread. I'm really out of touch with cars. Is a new M or E class better than a used SL500 convertible? I'm really just asking for suggestions or ideas because I don't have too many good ideas. |

I could send you some stuff from the dealer. A new e350 and m350 go for about the same around $40,000. That's kinda the middle of the line. The entry line is the c class and there's now an equivalent suv that runs in the high 20s low 30s here. I'm presuming the pound buys two dollars as well and you're not taxed out the ass.
Try www.mercedes-Benz.co.Uk that has info as well. |

I stand by my advise offered when you were home; resist the Range Rover, but get the HSV if you must.
I say something understanded but with a fun engine / handling package; M3, Audi S4, something along those lines, where you get a good amount of fun without having your car get spit on. |

I still say go with a nice German sports sedan.
The M3 may be a bit played out, but because it is so damn good. I think a 335i would be an almost better option, no M3 badge, but a turbo 6 with AWD. A TVR is an English sports car that is rather iconoclastic, meaning no ABS, but they go like hell, look good, and are not too expensive. Audi S4 or any turbo A4, or something along those lines. I still say go 911 though. |

While all the vehicles Beebs just mentioned are indeed certifiable Boss Rides, the owner of the vehicle matters just as much as the vehicle itself. Buying a car is like a marriage. For instance, the 911 is a Mega Boss Ride, but it's less of a Mega Boss Ride for some and more of one for others. It depends on the driver. For instance, f3lix in a 911 makes the 911 a god damned hugely Mega Boss Ride. When band director f3lix gets out of his 911, people are going to say, "holy fucking shit, f3lix drives a 911?! What a baller!" I contend that when financial trader FC gets out of a 911, people are going to think, "oh look, another douchebag financial trader in a 911." This is why I like a Boss Ass SUV for FC. When FC climbs out of a Commander or a motherfuckin' Range Rover, people are going to stop, pause, look at him and say, "oh my. Who is that boss ass motherfucker driving that Commander with the sick wheels? I'll bet he has an 11 inch dick and makes seven-figures."

Personally, I don't see where you could go wrong with any of these mentioned. You just have to figure out what is more important to you and go for that. I personally love the Commanders, as long as they are loaded. The base models that we have are going for the same money as the leather loaded ones.

I don't know the market over there, but the market over here is weird on those types of SUV's. You see a bit of a price difference with a Durango or Trailblazer, but with the Commanders, we can still get low buys on each model. If you have the cash to get into the Benz Conv. I would do it. Is the weather there nice enough to warrent a conv.?
