I'll post a few so that when a they get inevitably taken down there will hopefully be one that lasts a little longer
Spoiler space below Cry Jiu Jitsu! Always fun to see pure grappling win out, not that I don't enjoy striking, hell I love striking, but in MMA I love to see this to prove the point that no matter how good or powerful, striking is not enough. I am a huge fan of Filho, and am glad he beat Manhoef, which I thought he could do if he was back to himself, alot of people know he has had some problems with depression and drugs, so I thought I would try to clear that up. It is likely that he was on Royphnol, but possible that he was on Diprivan. Just to be clear, this guy was addicted either to the drug that killed Micheal Jackson, Diprivan Propofol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, or, more likely to Royphnol Flunitrazepam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and only got out of rehab about a year ago. Its hard to say because the term used in the interview done in Portuguese says "Rupinol" which either is a misspelling of "Rupinal", a Brazillian brand of Diprivan, or the word "Rohypnol" which is Flunitrazepam, "Roofies" or, rather inaccurately "The date rape drug." While it is concievable to be used as a date rape drug, it is far more often used the same was as other benzodiazepines, such as xanax, Valium, klonopin, lorazepam, and the like. It can be used legitimately for anxiety (not in the US), or for recreational effects. To me the Rohypnol is far more likely as several fighters have battled benzodiazepine addictions, whereas people who abuse Diprivan tend to end up completely nonfunctional at best, like Micheal Jackson at worst. I am a huge Filho fan and just wanted to get that out there. Not that he didn't get himself into the drug abuse situation, but fighters are especially prone to depression and these things that lead to drug use. Pretty amazing to consider that he had almost certainly what was likely Rohypnol or possibly Diprivan while beating some of the best in the sport. Sonnen, Doerkson, Misaki (who he seriously injured his knee against, otherwise he would have went on to win that tournament against Kang), Ninja Rua when Ninja was a huge name to have a win over. Who knows how long his addiction goes back, but he was undefeated until he lost to Sonnen, when he was clearly out of his mind. Not discrediting Sonnen, he deserved that fight, and was doing very well in the first fight when Filho looked normal. |
