SOPA hearing going on right now. Been watching for a couple of hours. It's a shit-show.
Any of you realize how fucked up this is going to make the internet if it gets passed? KeepTheWebOpen.com |

What's good about a 322 page law (that we aren't allowed to read for six months) that gives government complete regulatory power over the Internet?

It's good because it doesn't allow large companies (that are reported to be making a 97% profit margin) to dictate how a necessary service is provided to the public.
Let's put it this way: I would much rather my internet be regulated like my power/water/etc rather than giving the aforementioned companies even more power to strangle the service and make more dollars. The fear that you're talking about (sites being shut down for things that are not illegal) is complete speculation. The fear I'm talking about is one that the cable companies have repeatedly try to make happen (forcing customers to pay more / forcing specific websites to pay extra money for their sites to be delivered quickly to their readers). |

I don't think the law gives the government "complete" control of the internet, and I do believe the government probably controls a good deal of the internet now. What is it you think will happen?

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

Keep licking those government boots, guys.
Everyone knows that more government regulation is always a good thing. If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about. FCC governance of the Internet is a good thing! There'll certainly be no censorship. It's not like the FCC is in charge of government propaganda or anything. It's not like the FCC isn't staffed and run by people who used to staff and run the telecom companies. I'm sure there's no collusion there at all. Government is always 100% accountable and transparent, and the citizens are their constituency. It's not like they just passed a shadow law full of various amendments granting them God knows what power in secret with no input on the law from the public. There was nothing wrong with isps charging companies more money for more bandwidth. If Netflix wants to pass that cost along to me, the consumer, then so be it. Pretty much expected given we live in a world of scarcity. Telecom companies now have zero incentive to upgrade their data lines, so we'll be stuck with shitty Internet in the US for the foreseeable future. Whenever I see a problem caused by government regulations try to be solved by more government regulations, I know things are fucked. |

Except that quote is demonstrably false. I would expect this kind of nanny state love and government cock sucking from a brit cuck like you.
Better go ask your government if you can cut your meat with a butter knife lol. |
