This. But also FC is right. There is such a thing as an intelligent conservative. There is an argument to be made for states' rights and small government. It's just so.... lost... in the shit. For the best four years, the Republican party has been run by desperation, and they are willing to make the country a worse place if it helps their party (or more accurately, if it hurts the Dems... i.e. hurts Obama's chances at reelection.)

Why would your political beliefs not count if you vote third party? Is there a word for those that wouldn't vote for someone they aren't 100% behind? Quote:

George W. Bush's legacy might prove too steep for Romney to overcome, much like McCain in 2008. Listening to Bill Clinton last night, and the impact he had, really illustrates how helpful it is for parties to have a popular past president promoting his party's nominee. The Republicans don't have that now that Reagan's gone.

The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. |

Article doesn't prove shit except that there are forces much stronger than taxes that affect GDP growth, such as technological advances and the collapse of major economic "bubbles", which is nothing new.
Also, the Bush tax cuts were for personal income tax only. I wonder what a reduction in the corporate tax rates would do. |

That should make a great hole to dig himself out of for the next couple of weeks.

Full video. Ignoring the 47% sound bite. When I see it I don't really hear anything too bad. He sounds really intelligent and perceptive in this video. It answers the question as to whether or not he knows foreign policy. I wish I could get a chance to see Obama uncensored like this.
If he would change his mind on cutting taxes, I would 100% vote for him if I had to within the next hour. |

What I find most interesting and sad is that politics have come to a point in this country where you can't say what you really think. It's such an admission by everyone freaking out about this that yeah, we know politicians lie and say whatever they have to in order to get elected; we know everything is scripted and they have handlers and surrogates and people write all of their speeches for them. None of these goddamn politicians are real people because the shitty system won't let them be.

Sure, more often indirectly than directly. But at this point I think we need to reconsider what "the media" even is. Not in the "mainstream/lamestream" populist sense either. We need to completely deconstruct it, follow the money...The whole thing is a mess.

I would recommend ignoring the full video and watching Jon's take on it:

Romney Apologizes To Nation's 150 Million 'Starving, Filthy Beggars' | The Onion - America's Finest News Source
It just occurred to me that to the technology generation, politics has always been quite literally nothing but a joke. I don't mean that in the colloquial, "politics are such a joke" way. I mean that most of what many of us learn from politics comes from pundits. Do conservatives have any sites or TV shows that actually humorously critique liberals? Why isn't there a Colbert Report or a John Stewart for conservatives? I know both of these shows, (along with SNL, other comedy shows, etc) frequently also rip the left, but it doesn't take a genius to see they're all very left leaning. Are conservatives not funny? Or are they just not right? |
Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.
