Elegy, shut the fuck up.

78% of the people that watched all of the LotR movies were pimply faced nerds?

Are you serious? Are you that close-minded? I didn't see ONE PERSON that was dressed as a character, or in a costume. NOT ONE PERSON. And that wasn't just in Warsaw. That was also in Ft. Wayne at The Rave. And it wasn't 3 weeks after the movie had come out. It was around opening weekend. I wasn't even there to see the movie, but the place was fucking packed.

I'd say that if you were to really put a percentage on the actual amount of nerds that were there, more like, 10% of the attendees were die-hard enough to dress up. Sure, around 45% are going to be Tolkien fans, or maybe even more. But 78%? That's ridiculous.

HAVE YOU SEEN THE FUCKING MOVIES? If you haven't, shut the fuck up. I remember saying that Pirates of the Caribbean was going to be a joke of a movie: UNTIL I SAW IT. And it was great, fun, completely surprising movie.

So shut the fuck up if you haven't seen the movies.

However, for you that HAVE seen the movies......have you ever seen anything like that before? Have you ever seen anything of that magnitude before? Remember that scene in front of Minas Tirith (or for all you non-pimply faced, lan-partying nerds, the castle in the rock) where the elephants were storming the armies and the flying dragons, and oh, what about the Dark Lord's castle, the green one?

I don't know about you, but NO. OTHER. MOVIE. this year gave me chills like LotR did.

Maybe my opinion is biased. But......I don't see why it should be. I'm HUGELY CRITICAL of movies. Hugely. It's gotta click for me. And most movies that people fucking love just don't work for me. A Beautiful Mind was one of those for me. I was pretty pissed when such an epic as Fellowship of the Ring was beat out by Russell Crowe's stuttering. Sure, I enjoyed it, but it was far surpassed by the majesty of Fellowship of the Ring.

I think that Fellowship was by far the best of the three. I was gripped to my seat during that whole movie. I was bored at the end of Return of the King, due to the extended 45 minute ending that just dragged and dragged and dragged. But the actual action part of the movie made up for every eye roll, just because it contained everything that it should have been. They didn't half-ass ONE THING in these movies.

Oh, and remember. Most of the awards were for technical shit. Like Sound. And make-up.

Please. Tell me what movie could have beat LotR in make-up. Pirates of the Caribbean? Please. Maybe Johnny Depp's eye liner was a feat on it's own, but the hardest thing in that movie was Geoffrey Rush's scars. LotR? FUCKING ORCS ALL OVER THE PLACE. And each of them was real, not CG.

Annie Lennox's song for LotR was beautiful, and while I fucking loved Sting's song for Cold Mountain, I thought that all three were great pieces of music.

All and all, I loved all the movies that were up for Best Picture. But none of them even came close to LotR. The scope, the world, the epic that was LotR IS HISTORICAL. These movies are bigger than fucking Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Godfather, Back To The Future, etc.

Sad to say, Mystic River and Lost In Translation, while some of my favorite movies this year, and in recent years, will not be as remembered by the masses.

Frankly, LotR's had been shafted from the spotlight for too long. Peter Jackson poured so much time, energy, and passion into these movies, and it was incredibly evident. He deserves mad props for even ATTEMPTING THIS FEAT.

This is just my opinion. But man, it's hard for me to see Mystic River beating out LotR.

(You wanna know the funny thing though? I was in an Oscar pool, and I was THIS close to putting down Mystic River as the film that would take the top award this year. Glad I didn't. Big payoff.)

Bigger than the Godfather and Star Wars? I don't think so. "Shafted from the spotlight"? Fuck, that's all I've heard about for the past two years. I thank god every night that the god damn things are over.

How do you both define "bigger"? If we're talking about being more profitable or selling more tickets, well, I'm sure someone could hunt down some statistics.

I assumed he meant historically speaking since that's what he put in bold, not profit wise.

The Hunt For Gollum Movie Website - Official Site
Independent Online Cinema presents an unofficial and free high-concept Lord of the Rings prequel made for under $5,000. The film remains true to the style of Peter Jackson's films and the world of J.R.R. Tolkien telling how Aragorn tracked down Gollum between The Hobbit & The Fellowship of the Ring.

The film achieved over 1 million views in the first week of release in May 2009. (Dailymotion) and wide press acclaim for it's high production values on a microbudget.

i cannot believe how good ofa job they did for an independent studio and a budget of 5 g's.

EDIT: here's the deep link to a pretty sweet fight scene if you just wanna skip to that.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H09xnhlCQU#t=22m45s.

EDIT 2: lol rewatching it they totally ripped off of this song simply by speeding it up for the fight scene, but thats respectable i suppose.

God damnit I watched that thing thinking it would be funny. It wasn't. With a title like "Lord of the Rings Voiceover" it had potential, but it was wasted.
