Does anybody else think the commercial where the guy is at Fridays drinking w/ his buddies, and he sees his wife their is a little weird? Just the interaction between them...for those of you who don't know, this middle aged dude is laughing with his buddies on some weekend night and hears a laugh and looks across and sees his wife...and for some reason his wife stops laughing and looks like..scared and almost tries to hide...and he goes over there and is like real sheepish and is like "hey honey...who's watching the kids?" and the grandma is across in the restaurant side with the kids....
Overall, it's a good concept for the commercial, but it's just WEIRD, because i get this impression that the wife is like abused because of how they act. Just thought i'd see if anybody else noticed that. |

Yea my girlfriend has noticed this before. She was like "who's watching the kids?!?!... what is she not allowed to go out for an evening?"
Personally I don't see nothing wrong with it. -UB |

yea, at first i thought the wife was cheating on the dude with her girlfriend and then the kids question comes into play, and then you see G-ma w/ the kids.
There is a little tension i sensed also. |

I think it's a perfectly fine commercial.
You guys are reading entirely too much into it. The wife agreed to watch the kids, but she shrugged the responsibility off to the much-willing grandma who doesn't get to see her grandkids enough (and is especially lonely after grandpa had his heart attack). The family comically all ends up at TGI Fridays. It's not about the "wife having to watch the kids," or "wife can't hang out with her friends." Just good natured "hey... weren't you supposed to be watching the kids tonight?" Good commercial. |

It'd be a better commercial if he asked who was watching the stove.

No, FC, you arent reading the behavior. I'm not saying anything about roles here, i'm just saying the acting is weird. The way he and she react to each other is strange and doesn't fit the typical marriage script.

I've seen the commercials at least 5,000,000 times and never got the impression that he was beating her. Hell, I never even got the slightest impression that anything was abnormal at all.
Wouldn't you be worried if someone said they were looking after your kids and they weren't? It's not because it's his wife, it's because he doesn't know where his kids are, and the person who said they would look after them shrugged that responsibility. I've seen the commercial about 7,000,000 times myself, and youre right, theres just some weird vibe that I can't put my finger on. Something just isn't natural about their interactions.
It never crossed my mind that the husband beats her, but I could see that now. |

Do you get all the sports you watch transmitted directly into your brain, or what?
