Everytime I see a retard in a wheelchair at the scramblelight here on campus, drooling all over their own face, wheeling themselves to class, I feel like such a dumbass that I go to the same college they do.

What the fuck is up with this? There are so many retards that go to Ball State. I'm not talking like "frat guy" retard, I'm talking literal clinical retard here.

There are people who don't even know their own name that go to Ball State. Something doesn't seem right about that. Who are these people, and how in the hell did they get here?

Do you have some retard education program? Because I've never seen a single retard at IU, and I'm sure it's not the quality of academics that is the answer (we are both, after all, big public schools).

My second question is this: what the hell can a retard possibly learn that is worth the money or investment of anybody? It's sad but true, the resources devoted to these unfortuneate souls should be devoted to bright and otherwise underpriveledged people (disparaged minorities, for example).

I highly doubt that anything that they do with a college degree could be more productive than stocking shelves at Wal-Mart. I'll go one step further, I bet that anything they do will end up being more of a hindrence to whoever their employer may be.

But that's the problem with employment law. If you are highering a receptionist, and technically a retard can do the job suffieciently (with reasonable accomodation), then you are legally forced to give the retard the job, despite the fact that there may be other equally qualified individuals who would provide more potential for promotion. While you can discriminate if someone can do the job better than the retard (based on some form of rubric), the fact is that retards can usually be trained to do specific jobs, and this becomes a problem with employers who would rather have the normal person who is more versatile and could be used to fill other positions should necessesity be called.

Now in this post I have used the word "retard" very often. I mean this in the 'nicest' way possible, in the traditional sense of mental retardation. I am aware that there are many different forms of mental retardation, and some people with certain forms may go on to be somewhat successful in different ventures. This doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of mentally retarded people are being devoted more resources than is socially efficient.

I'm not talking about the ones that have a little to offer to society, or can pick up litter and shit like that, I'm talking about the brain-dead ones drooling all over themselves making scary noises in a wheelchair; I think those people should honestly be "put down" (much like you'd do to an old-dog).

I've always wanted my own tard. Just someone I can tell to take out the trash, wash dishes, or someone to slap around when I'm having a bad day. The ONE good thing about certain retards is their devotion to things. I used to wait tables at an Amish themed resteraunt, where nearly half employees in other departments were retodded, and half of those retodded were inbred Amish. Its amazing how much these tards are sticklers for the rules, or how much they respect their tard trainers. Tard Trainers are people that come in to work w/ the tards for their first couple weeks of work to get them used to their jobs, these people have mastered the art of tard taming. Anyways, it would be cool to train my tard to kill puppies and kittens.

It was merely an example how a physically handicapped person (people who I have always had pity for moreso than mentally handicapped, because they actually contain an awareness of the fact) is not always necessarily mentally retarded.

Also, you've mentioned multiple times that you don't see many handicapped people on campus, so I don't know how accurate your description of "the rule" is...I know you have exp. because of your job this summer and winter break, but the reason you don't see the people who are mentally handicapped often in your line of work is because most of them can take care of themself.

It may very well be because of our easily accessible campus, and although I think you're joking in your last statement, i'm going to play devils advocates here as well. If you are serious, I doubt they let the mentally retarded subjects stay in the dorms and freely roam about campus.

I would venture to guess that almost all, if not every handicapped person that attends BSU regularly is fully capable of understand the complexities of college courses. I actually admire them for trying to get ahead in life...while the chances are slim to none they will be extremely successful unless they are a genius, then also (similar to the asian population on campus) really don't have much to do except study all the time.
