Just caught Black Swan thanks to you fuckers talking it up. Was defo creepy the whole way through, and a great movie overall. I'm hard pressed to think of anything Natalie Portman has done better. Maybe The Professional, or possibly The Phantom Menace.
I do, however, really think that F3lix needs to explain this shit once and for all: Quote:
Beautiful, yes. Paralysis-inducing and tear-inspiring, no. Let's just get down to brass tacks here. You had an emotional connection to this film because of your work as an aspiring conductor. That is it, plain and simple. You were able to personally empathize with many of the characters in the film and the kinds of pressure they were under, which the director was able to do excellently by aligning the audiences emotions perfectly with the characters' emotions. This caused you to feel that you somehow got a "deeper understanding" of the film, when in fact, you were simply more emotionally connected to it. Perhaps I'm wrong, but based on how ridiculously seriously you take yourself and your orchestrating-or-whatever-the-fuck-you-call-it, I doubt it. The dumbest thing about this is that if you would have said what I just did (relating your experiences to those of the characters in the film, based in your history in the performing arts), none of us would have given you any shit in the first place (well, not as much anyways). It's the fact that you seem to have sincerely thought you were in the upper echelons of movie critics that could truly appreciate what happens to be a blockbuster film. /rant

I saw the movie with about 20 other people in the theatre. I can recall three separate times in the movie when I audibly caught people expressing confusion. I thought they were dumb. It's that simple. But when the movie was over and the majority of the theatre was baffled by what they had just seen, I could only think that those people didn't/couldn't connect to the film like I did. I loved the movie and maybe I liked it more because I'm more emotional than you. Maybe because it's about the field of performing arts and careers are hung on the ability to move people far more than just play (dance) perfectly. I fight that struggle nearly every day, with every level of students, peers, and faculty above me. I like the art of it and this film hit me in my artistic nerve. I like getting wrapped up it amazing performances (and movies) because it is raw and real. This film was raw in its unapologetic delivery, and as a person who wishes we had more of that in our P.C. bullshit times, I really loved the movie.
For the record, I also greatly enjoyed The Wrestler (same director), but that was moreso because I felt Mickey Rorke was amazing in that film. |

Saw Black Swan last night and overall I was very impressed with the performance from Natalie Portman. The only thing that really bothered me was:
The whole Fight Club shtick ... maybe its just because the storyline for COD: Black Ops also had a "Fight Club" ending so it might just be overdone right now, but it was also done somewhat poorly. Were all the scenes with Mila Kunis supposed to be just her? Did she have sex with the director backstage after practice? Did she stab Winona Rider in the face? Or Did Winona stab herself? Or did it happen at all? There was no real "wrap up" giving good indication which scenes were just her and which with supposed to be both Portman and Kunis. |

I thought Black Swan was okay. Nothing special. A bit above average. Basically ballerina mutilating herself. I get how Nina's breakdown kinda paralleled the swan lake story and blah blah blah. The lack of development of any other characters is puzzling to the point of what of the fuck. Too many spots didn't make logical sense and there were a few loose ends that never got tied up.

Just saw The Social Network. What a fantastic movie. The pacing was fast and steady, the dialogue snappy...damn, I loved that movie. David Fincher is a fucking great director. I'll probably watch this movie again before I have to return it tomorrow evening.

Watched a matinee today of Blue Valentine. It was at the theater in the mall. A couple of observations. Where the fuck did all the niggers and mexicans in the mall come from? This is lilly white neighborhood. These high anchor department store won't survive with all the niggers and spics running off the good white shoppers. The theater itself was in a 18 screen mega plex. However, this was the smallest theater I've ever been in. Maybe 8 rows 4 in front and 4 in back. Anyway, a very good movie.
For those who want to see Michelle Williams frequently naked having simulated sex, there's plenty there. She doesn't really do it for me so take that for what it's worth. Don't get me wrong, I'd hit it if the opportunity presented itself. I'm just not gonna think about her when I nail some 5. The movie tells the tale between Cindy and Dean. How they meet, get married, and have it fall apart. It follows a flashbacks with current day format that works well. Williams and Gosling are really great and play off each other well. To the point where I was hating Cindy and wanted to choke her. AP says check it out. Better than black swan, notch below king's speech. |

Jesus, talk about over-hyping a fucking movie, f3lix. Christ. A crazy bitch (as evidenced very early on in the movie with the fingernail shit), is crazy through the movie. In the end, it is revealed that she is... ...is.... ...is... CRAZY! Fucking shocker. Okay movie. Shitty ending. Move on.

Since there isn't a thread for movies I didn't enjoy recently, I'm putting this here. Paranormal Activity 2. It's the same movie as the first one, but with a family instead of a couple.

So this will be movies offered up by US Airways on a plane. Wall Street: Money Doesn't Sleep. Sucked ass. Gekko's daughter is probably the stupidest character ever created. Very predictable. I'm not sure why they made this movie. The suspension of belief is way too great for a movie that puts in historical accuracies. Life As We Knew it. A baby screaming half the movie + Katherine Heigl = Shit. Don't know why I would think otherwise. Two people who don't like each other become forced together when their mutual friends die and designate the guardian of their daughter to the pair. Hilarity does not ensue and they surprisingly hook up. Sideways. Not too bad. I know too many people like both of those dudes. Didn't get to see the end because it cut off. Easy A. Some chick acts like a slut for cash and prizes so others will feel better about themselves. She acts like a slut, but really isn't. Adolescent film that was okay at best. Oscar worthy next to the fucking Heigl movie. Social Network. Best one of the plane movies. This zuckerberg guy is a real asshole. Moved pretty quick and kept my attention. Essentially story of facebook. Which I'm kinda losing interest in real quick. Facebook: reconnecting you with people you never gave a shit about back then.

I kept waiting for sideways to get better. The highlight was the chink from grey's beating the shit out of the guy from wings with a helmut. That was kinda cool. It cut off right after then when he was picking up the fat chick. I really didn't care enough to know how it ended. Removed from netfix queue when I got back.
I owe Oliver Stone an ass kicking for wall street 2. |
