I recently saw Disney-Pixar's "Up" and it's the best animated movie I've ever seen - easily the best movie of 2009. It's heartbreaking while at the same time fucking hilarious. I highly recommend it to everyone. And it's not just me. Ebert gave it 4 stars and it's at 98% on the tomato meter.

The Gamers : Dorkness Rising
Not really a fan of D&D films, or many low budget films for that matter, this was amazing though, geek comedy ftw. |

I feel like this thread should get more attention. To catch up with my last couple of months or so, here's a list. Anything that seems excessively gay is due to Banana Tits pushing her will on the Netflix queue. Honest.
Gran Torino: Something about this movie made me absolutely love it. It was so terribly simple, yet badass at the same time. Clint was hilarious in an intentionally unintentional way. +++ Bride Wars: Awful, obv. --- Underworld: Rise of the Lycans: I'm pretty sure I hadn't seen any of the other Underworlds, but this was a fine with me. About what you'd expect. Not in a shitty way. + Felon: The general gist of this movie: A "normal" dude accidentally kills a robber as the robber is fleeing his house with his wallet. He's charged with manslaughter and ends up in prison. The guards are dicks and don't like him, so his stay keeps getting his stay extended. Obv he becomes a badass. I liked it a lot. I tend to like any movies that have a main setting in prison, though. And I like real fucking underdog stories (like all feel good sports movies). This is kinda a FGSM, just in a different package. +++ The Mist: Surprisingly good. I expected shit and received a pretty okay film. The ending was shyamalan-esque. Like...before he got shitty. ++ Notorious: These god damn rapper movies entertain me to no end. First 50's movie, and then this. Terrific. +++ Revolutionary Road: Tried watching this. It got terrible about 5 minutes in and never recovered. --- Knowing: Nick Cage can see the future! Wait, haven't I see this movie before? Yes. Yes I have. Kind of. It was fine, though. + Burn After Reading: Pretty solid. Like most movies with a cast like this (Clooney, Pitt, Malkovich), it has one of those jump-around, action-packed plots where you never know exactly where the shit is going. Like Snatch. Or Smokin' Aces. Or Luckly Never Slevin. Something like that. Solid movie, though. Love Malkovich's character. ++ He's Just Not That Into You: For being as shitty as it was, it had it's moments. - Confessions of a Shopoholic: Surprisingly okay. Though that may be because the humor hits close to home as my very own Banana Tits is a reformed shopoholic. Almost as much as the main bitch in this film. + The Hangover: It lived up to the hype. +++ Public Enemies: The first half hour was great. The last half hour was great. The 8.5 hours that separated the two were not. + Bruno: Slightly disappointing. Though there were a few instances where I was laughing uncontrollably to the point that it hurt...the vast majority of the laughs were slight. On the whole, it was almost more interesting than funny. Almost. + That'll do for now. |

Gaz, you are pussy-whipped.
Bruno was as funny as Step Brothers and Wedding Crashers. The only catch is the plot is identical to Borat, but was twice the film. The humor never stopped from the minute it started. I like movies that never cease. |

Bingo. I could never let go of "I wonder if this scene was staged" type of thoughts enough to fully enjoy the movie. I think it takes a simple mind, like f3lix's, to really get into this one.

Looks pretty good. I'll try to find it with English subtitles around here...most Korean movies don't have them.
From what I can tell, the lead, Kang-ho Song basically turns everything he is in to cinema gold. He's only in about 1 movie a year but its almost always Koreas best movie of that year. |

Just watched Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon. I remember seeing the trailer and wanting to see it, but...didn't. Basically fairly simple plot, gang kills family/businessman's son, he loses it, wages war with the gang. The last half hour is really where all the good action is, the rest of the movie has a bunch of action but much less organized and more one-sided..on either side of the conflict. I like this movie because it shows a regular guy who has never really had any crazy fighting or gun experience (that is mentioned) go from normal to killer. Above is a cool scene where he actually has to learn how to use guns before he goes in blazing them. Another thing I really liked is the common sense and realistic behavior that is shown throughout the film, whenever somebody is being hurt or attacked. How many times are you like. "WHY DOESN'T HE JUST DO _______________" in a movie? You don't get much of that with this... a lot of it is "oh, good call man, i probably would have done the same thing" Examples: wiping off fingerprints, grabbing nearby objects as weapons, taking certain precautions, etc. etc. Not anything profound by any means, but a good action flick, I highly recommend it. The only bad part is having to deal with Aisha Tyler, who is a pretty shitty detective overall in the movie. |
