Why I hate "marketing."

The Federer ad didn't bother me at all. A little juvenile, perhaps, but nothing I found offensive. I am more bothered by ads like the one below that portray men (almost always white) as some incompetent fuck-up badly in need of the woman and/or minority savior figure to swoop in tell them how it is. The "dumbass white male getting bailed out by woman and/or minority authority figure" is a common script in advertising these days. It's just so ridiculous and a big turnoff to me. Why can't you just advertise your product without throwing the last people on earth that it's okay to throw under the bus (white males) under the bus? It tells men and boys that it's okay, even normal, to be weak, clueless, and dependent on female/minority power figures and corporate products for help making it through the day.

Here's another one where the dumbass white guy is put in charge of making dinner much to the dismay of his children who, of course, view him as a incapable schmuck. But oh wait... Dad was smart enough to call Pizza Hut to assemble a meal for his family since he certainly would have never been able to manage doing that himself. Notice the almost cartoon-like sense of pride the man has over having achieved something absurdly simple like picking up a phone and ordering pizza. That's another common thing you'll see in marketing: white guy acting really proud of himself for accomplishing nothing spectacular whatsoever.
