USC vs Texas

mmmmm... this game is gonna be tastey.

I pick USC like everybody else.

Orgazmo 01-04-2006 01:45 PM

Not everybody. Texas by a touchdown.

Ugly Bastard 01-04-2006 01:48 PM

Reggie Bush will outscore Texas.

Orgazmo 01-04-2006 01:57 PM

That's impossible...since we already established that Texas is going to win.

Niger Angelus 01-04-2006 02:31 PM

I am going to side with Gaz on this one. Young will not be stopped by USC. Also, did you see the ND , OSU game? Texas clearly will have the advantage. They have also been talked down by the media throughout this whole thing, they are going to be fired up. I say Texas by 10-14. Leinart is getting knocked out of the game too. Texas is going to go after him and disrupt him because when you get him down he starts to make small errors that can turn into big ones.

Orgazmo 01-04-2006 02:48 PM

You're god damned right!

Vaughn will burn them with the post. He was first team all state...he'll make it rain.

Ugly Bastard 01-04-2006 02:59 PM

Reggie Bush - 28

USC 38
Texas 24

Niger Angelus 01-04-2006 03:15 PM

48-34 Texas

Fine. 48-38 Texas. I think once Texas starts to establish and shut down USC it will be downhill.

Trout Sniffer 01-04-2006 03:49 PM

Reggie Bush is too good...There is not a defense in the NCAA that can stop him and for that reason and that reason alone, USC will win.

Southern Cal by 7 points.

Cocktooth 01-04-2006 10:27 PM

WOW you guys are amazing...you have no clue what the last name of Texas' QB is....its YOUNG not Vaughn......

Niger Angelus 01-05-2006 12:26 AM

What now fuckers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kinda like how no defense could slow down Brady Quinn, or if Charlie Weiss had 4 weeks to gameplan he could beat anyone. USC was buttered up for this one, their defense is god awful and it cost them.

I really thought that the Texas defense would preform much better in the 3rd and early 4th than what they did, but they showed up when they needed to.

Niger Angelus 01-05-2006 01:15 AM

Ok, so I was 6 points off the final score, anyone want to tell me I am wrong about Texas now?

angry pancake 01-05-2006 01:30 AM

It was great to watch a game between the best two college football teams in the country. Hats off to Texas for beating Ohio State in Columbus in the real National Championship game this year. I just hope Tressel doesn't go to the pros.

Niger Angelus 01-05-2006 02:24 AM

I agree. I feel OSU could beat USC. OSU should be #2 in the polls next year with Texas #1 and USC #3, Penn St. #4 and Notre Dame #5.

angry pancake 01-05-2006 03:17 AM

Will give Notre Dame these props: That was a bitch of schedule on paper before the season began.

With all of those Freshmen returning for West Virginia, they may not lose next year.

buckeye 01-05-2006 08:19 AM

Penn State loses alot of their team to graduation/NFL i doubt they are as good next year.

THEINCREDIBLEdork 01-05-2006 04:31 PM

vince young is a golden god, i had no idea, i hadn't seen him play this year until yesterday. In the pros it is my belief that he will be more valuable than bush. Assuming neither get injured.

Niger Angelus 01-05-2006 05:00 PM

Yeah, I believe Young will be #1 almost 100% sure.

Although Herbstreit, and various other espn cfb pundits have said OSU is #1 if VY doesnt return, im going to disagree. It drives me crazy how much of an emphasis is put on a team with a decent offense as opposed to a great defense. Defense came up big for Texas this year, USC's D was the mainstay of their run last year, LSU in 2003 was a defensive team, and OSU in 2002 was all about defense.

Ive said it once and ill say it again, this was OSU's year to win another national title under Tressel. All the pieces were in place except for a TE that forgot how to play football over the summer, and a QB that was suspended giving up all his offseason reps costing him the experience and poise needed to perform like he did in the 2nd half of the season from the start.

Next year Ohio State loses the following notable players...

Offense
*Ryan Hamby TE (thank god)
*Rob Sims OL (this one hurts)
*Nick Mangold OL (one of the best centers in the nation)
*Santonio Holmes WR (should be the first WR taken in the draft)

Defense
*Mike Kudla DE (most underrated lineman in OSU history, will likely break the NFL bench press record, simply a beast)
*AJ Hawk LB(nations best linebacker)
*Bobby Carpenter LB (great lb, talented enough to drop down to DE)
*Anthony Schlegel LB (hard hitting inside linebacker)
*Nate Salley S (terrible in coverage, but can lay the wood)
*Tyler Everett S (was the best in the secondary)
*Donte Whitner CB (a junior who just declared, a huge loss)
*Marcus Green DE (decent player nothing hard to replace)

The be brief the OSU offense can go be amazing or terribly mediocre. Hinging on the following

1. Teddy Ginn or Anthony Gonzalez stepping up to be the go to guy for Troy Smith. In short both need to be amazing to not allow for any D's to double team them.

2. OSU has a running back that gets 100 yards nearly every game. Granted Troy will get his yards, but Pitmann needs to be more consistent in his performances. The one huge factor could be incoming freshmen Chris Wells, the nations #1 running back. He could very easily be the next great OSU running back.

3. The OL gels early. Despite two huge loses OSU has the talent already on the bench to replace them, how quickly they put it together will determine the outcome in Austin.

Defense

While OSU, i feel, has players that can fill the vacancies left behind nicely. It wont come close to comparing to the Defense OSU fielded this past year. There is talent, but no experience which will cost them, and derail any hopes of making a fiesta bowl next year.

My Top 10 (based on potential):

1. Texas (only if VY returns)
2. LSU (loads of talent)
3. USC (still walks away with the Pac-10)
4. Miami (Kyle Wright has breakout year)
5. Oklahoma (much like OSU reloaded in 2004, OU did so this year, they have enormous amounts of talent, and if not for VY would win the Big 12)
6. WVU (good offense, shitty conference)
7. ND (17 returning starters, but their Defense will still suck, until they can play on both sides of the ball dont expect a return trip to the desert)
8. OSU (with whitner now leaving, i dont see OSU ever recovering on D. Troy smith will make mistakes and wont have anyone to bail him out.)
9. UM (assuming Hart stays healthy)
10. VTech (although i hope Vick snaps his neck)

Niger Angelus 01-05-2006 08:31 PM

Yeah, I forgot about LSU, they are going to be hella tough. I don't know about Miami though. They have talent but I don't know how well the talent is going to play as a unit, and they are very undisciplined.

For the record, I was quoting Vince Vaughn from wedding crashers in my reply to niger referring to Mr. Young as Mr. Vaughn. There was only one "amazing" person who really confused the two here.

Niger Angelus 01-06-2006 12:39 AM

Yeah, I mixed up the two, I take blame.
