Amare can still be used for the 2007 qualifier (if necessary) and the 2008 Olympic Team. Plus as you can see, there is a major shortage of quality centers.

Duncan is not American and has played for his native country in years past. (The Virgin Islands, I think).

While Kirk Hinrich was added to the list after this post, he is with 14 others picked for the final 15, which will be cut to 12 days prior to competition.

Carmelo Anthony; Gilbert Arenas; Shane Battier; Chris Bosh; Bruce Bowen; Elton Brand; Kirk Hinrich; Dwight Howard; LeBron James; Antawn Jamison; Joe Johnson; Brad Miller; Chris Paul; Amaré Stoudemire; and Dwyane Wade.

I had one of the Bowen picks. COuld've used better selections at center. WOuld've taken ben wallace, Kaman, or shaq over any of the center selections. Amare and Howard really aren't centers. Still they're the best two selections on the list.

NOw where the fuck is dirk nitwitzki and yao ming on this list?

A reminder that Coach K is very team oriented, which fits international ball very well. It wouldn't surprise me to see a starting 5 including a few Dukies. Who would you start and why?

I'd go with...

PG Hinrich
SG James
SF Battier
PF Brand
C Howard

These five can play well together, know how to play team ball, can hit the 3-ball, and can defend, as well as rebound. With the game on the line, surely my 5 would be different, but to get the game rolling, I'd like a good team and these five would be my pick.

F. Bruce Bowen (doesn't need to score on this team)
F. Elton Brand (Just as much a 5 as Amare)

I'd have Redd and Arenas as co-6th men, Bosh and Howard as the first talls off the bench --assuming Amare's not 100%.

I didn't have Hinrich or Battier on the team. Hinrich maybe someday, Battier I think he is what he is --a 4th option on an above average team/bench player on a really good team..

I finally saw a starting 5 that the US put on the floor. Against Lithuania, it was Carmelo Anthony, Shane Battier, Elton Brand, Kirk Hinrich and Wade.
