FIFA is corrupt as anything in the world.
For those of you who don't know, the selection of the next two World Cups, after Brazil in 2014, was voted on today by FIFA executives; the main competitors for 2018 were England, Spain & Portugal in a joint bid, and Russia.
Russia was selected for 2018 despite rampant racism at the games whenever a black player is playing, a lack of ready stadiums, and general infrastructure issues. I don't have a huge problem with Russia, as it is a modern country that does deserve to eventually hold a world cup as soccer is huge there, it will do a lot of good in improving the game there, where it is already hugely popular, and will probably come off very well in the end, despite the current state of affairs Also it is pretty clear that FIFA held the fact that England has a very free press that caught two FIFA executives willing to take bribes last month, against them, a BBC documentary on how other FIFA executives who are still there took bribes in the 90s that aired Wednesday didn't help either. So apparently a free press that is willing to expose fraud is not welcome by FIFA, the organization in charge of running the most popular game in the world. FIFA in fact admitted that the two executives exposed last month were in fact dirty and corrupt and fired them, but then went on to rant against the English press for exposing them. The true show of FIFA's true colors, namely giving whoever bribes them the most and is willing to lick their assholes the cleanest whatever they want, was giving the 2022 World Cup to Qatar. The opponents who Qatar beat out are Australia, Japan, Korea, and The United States. Now, this isn't just sour grapes at the US not getting it, as Australia was a very strong bid and would have been just as deserving. Japan and Korea are also good choices, but they just held one in 2002, so it is a bit early to give either of them another one so soon. But giving the World Cup a tiny desert country with no infrastructure, nowhere to host all the visitors, no stadiums, no history of the game, basically nothing of value in hosting the worlds biggest athletic competition, is fucking criminal. Also, Qatar in the middle of summer is a fucking oven; the plan Qatar proposes? Air conditioning entire stadiums, which they have shown no ability to do yet. The US could host 5 simultaneous World Cups starting fucking tonight, imagine what we could do given 12 years to prepare; it is a complete joke. Australia also has great stadiums, the ability to host all the visitors a rich sporting condition, good weather, and an increasing popularity in the game which would benefit hugely from the boost of a World Cup. Fucking disgusting, absolutely disgusting. |

Qatar is smaller than Connecticut. Also, Qatar's current population is ~1.7 million. The 2010 World Cup's total attendance was ~3.2 million. It's damn near laughable how obvious the corruption is.

The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. |

Shaw neg-repped me for my Qatar newb comment.
I can guarantee that before two weeks ago, Shaw didn't know how to spell Qatar, where it's located, nor could name any person ever born there. |

What does knowing somebody born there have to do about anything?
I'm far from ignorant in geography, and I can't name one. Get off your high horse, pump the breaks, and get ur shaw on. |

More to the point, it is a country that was named in the Arabic language and alphabet, so there is no perfectly correct way of translating it into English language and alphabet. Related note; apparently it's pronounced closer to Cutter then Cah-tar.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but even I knew Qatar was an extremely oil rich country before 2 weeks ago. Seriously, your grip on my nuts is getting way to tight. It's rather uncomforatable.
