He's a very good player, "next big thing" might be a bit strong. He fits in the 3 in a 4-2-3-1 very well in any of the positions, which with the full team would mean playing along Dempsey and Donovan, and behind Altidore/Gomez.
He is indicative of a very positive trend for the national team though; first he is comfortable making safe passes in order to keep possession. Most importantly he plays for Tijuana, which has 3 USMNT players, and 3 more eligible to play for the US. Tijuana and the LigaMX in Mexico in general is great for US player development, there is no silly wage structure or system where the league pays the salaries rather than the clubs; basically it's a real international league unlike the very Americanized MLS. The LigaMX also gets to play in the Copa Libatadores, the South American Champions leage, against some very good clubs, especially the Brazilian ones. Big fan of Corona all around. Might not quite be a full time starter right now, but has the advantage of versatility. A Corona Jersey would be perfectly acceptable, although he isn't quite established enough to have his own number strongly associated with him yet, like Dempsey is 8, Donovan 10, Bradley 4, etc. [edit]Actually he does seem to get 16 nearly always [/edit] |

People are way too quick to discount Altidore as the next thing. He's young and completely dominated in the dutch league last year with a move to EPL. As long as Klinsman is coach he is going to continue to thrive, all three of his goals yesterday were sick!

There's life and then there is Cubs baseball, it's a chore to seperate the two.

+1 fully on Altidore being a god yesterday (and the last 5 games).
I don't think anyone is still discounting him, though. They did until this year, but that's because he sucked. Since he dominated in the Eredivisie, it was just a matter of if he would carry that sexiness over. |

He almost looked disinterested until this year the very little I watched of him. I always started him on my FIFA roster though, so he has to have some merit.
