I've been tossing this idea around for a while now, I've decided to unveil this little idea.

The Download of the Day thread is one of those threads that has already gone down in Nubblies history. A bunch of songs that are worthy of your time to download and such.....but what if each and everyone of us were to pick only one song to put on a compilation CD....a Nubblies compilation.

So, pick one song which you think would best belong on this CD. We don't care what song it is. If we do end up getting enough songs, and I get around to it post haste, the songs would be listed with your name in the song list.

I would need help making the CD booklets, but we could do some bios of members and the songs they picked and such, or any other cool ideas you guys have.

What do you think?

Wow. This is truly a phenominal idea here, Chuck. I will not choose my track until I have had some time to think and see what other tracks grace the album. However, count me in like flint on this idea. A truly good one.

Chuck - Consider me enlisted for help. I've made too many CD mixes to count. If you need help making order from the chaos of the list of songs or with the physical design, I've got the means and time to do it. I think it's a great idea... I have a few ideas... I'll need to widdle them down...

Yeah, I thought this would be a good idea. The tough part will be figuring out exactly which song is the best for you to put on.

Titan, I will most definitely be enlisting your help on this project. Now that we're within stone throwing distance (I have a catapult in my backyard), I'm sure there will be some hearty collaborating going on.

Here's some more revisions to this idea.

If needed, we can have more than one volume. Given the amount of members on this board, we might need more than one.

It will also give us a chance to add songs to other compilations. That way, if you can't choose just one, we might be able to give your other picks a chance.

You know, I think we have something that could blow those idiotic NOW compilations out of the water.

Alright, since it's going to be a really hard decision to pin down just one song, make a list. That way, other members know what's on your platter. Let's try to steer clear from having more than one song by the same artist as well. I'm coming up with my list as we speak. I'll have it by tomorrow.

Another thing. Think about what contributions you have made to the Download of the Day thread. What type of music have you most come to be associated with? I know that I've come to be associated with alot more obscure, indie bands, so that's where I'm headed in my picks. Hopefully this helps.

I would like to be in on this board of members that you speak of, and an active one at that. I like to think that I have contributed more than my fair share of phenominal songs to the 'Download of the Day' thread.

Also, since this is an official Nubblies item, I technicly should have been approached about this ahead of time, since I hold the rights to any and all Nubblies merchandise...however, since it is such a phenominal idea, I'll let it slide...this time.

Anyway, let me know about helping.

Sorry, my bad gina. I wasn't aware of your holdings on the Nubblies merchandise area.

You will most definitely be in the production process of this beaut.

Another thing....if it is too hard to pick a definite song, then maybe I should pare it down a little....should I get into certain musical genres? I didn't really want this to be relegated to that, but if it facilitates the decision making....maybe it would be for the best.

Titan, gina, we need to get together and plan out exactly what we're going to do, and the best course of action for making this the most sexxin mix we've ever done.

Just say when.

Don't do the genre-thing. It will just bleed the variety out of it. People will get over having to pick one song, they'll live.

If we wanted to do two volumes, we could split it as like the first volume involves the top 15 postors, that's one idea.

Another thing is, we should all have back-ups in case we recommend a song from the same artist, we don't want that, that will also be liking taking a shot-gun to the variety.

I'm going to have to go make my list right now... I will most likely be contributing an electronic or rock song... Prodigy or Zeppelin... that sort of thing... We'll see... I'm thinking to best represent me, I might pick one from my favourite band.

And you speak the truth...the genre-thing would bleed out the variety.

Anyway, I'll get to work...and you should be getting to work on this too.

Just get at least a top 5 list, and we'll work on going from there later.

I've worked it down to a miniscule 20 songs... and that was harder than my shit after I eat bricks... this was only including like my top 8 bands... and the Queens 'cuz I love that song... and I even left some out like the Peppers and the Beatles 'cuz I figured they may be covered by others. And Autechre because everyone would skip over it.

Obviously the fact that we only have 80 minutes for the first volume which is the equivalent of 16 5min songs, is something we should take into consideration. We'll see where we're at though. I think we should just cut the number of trax on the 1st volume before we restrict time limit per song... you lose a lot of the good songs when they can't be over 5 minutes.

Alright, thanks to a customized playlist and a hefty dose of Legend of Zelda III: A Link to the Past for GameBoy Advance SP, I've widdled down my choices to what are currently the top 5 titans on my list.

4. Incubus Make Yourself
5. Queens of the Stone Age You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire

As far as what we could do with any text appearing in the sleeve... we should have each member write a description of their song or why they chose it... why it's cool, what it does for them, why they want others to hear it, how it represents them, anything relevant along these lines.

Then you've got the problem of the tracklist. No doubt we could create a beautiful masterpiece that flows like bile from a bulemic, but there will no doubt be some who are dissatisfied with the volitale journey. An alternative is to just go down the list of rank... in this case we'd hope that Orgazmo picked a good opener and so forth... but hardly anyone besides the few music-enthusiasts on Nubblies would even care. I'm going to go shit some ideas for a cover.

I think if we're really going to do this idea, we can't be so broad. We need each compilation to have some sort of theme (i use that word reluctantly). So we could each pick a song which is very much us, hence good variety, but then it's not so random.

I think the obvious route for the first album would be to pick the song that most represents your nubblies id. For instance, Vitruvio is obviously different from who he is in real life (which is a prom king by the way), but he would add a song which best represents his likes/styles which are characteristic of his nubblies character.

For instance, if I was going for any ol' favorite song of mine, it'd take me forever to decide but I'd eventually end up with Led Zeppelin's 'Black Dog'. But if we went , I'd most definately choose RHCP's 'Can't Stop'.

I think we would then be able to come up with good all around compilations in the future too. Future comp themes could be: the nubblies Love album, the violent/anger album, or the music for driving album... that kind of shit.
I think this would really enable future albums to be of both good quality, and use.

Thoughts?

I disagree.

I don't see why we all have to pick songs from the same genre/theme.

I say everyone picks whatever type of song they want. That's what makes us all unique individuals. I like knowing that on the same CD that's going to have John Lennon's Imagine, and Muse's Hypermusic; could also have Notorious B.I.G. and Beethoven.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I think restricting member's choices for this CD is a poor idea.

I definitely agree with pliedes.

It's okay to make one album that's all a bunch of random stuff, but if you did that for all of them it would just be ridiculous. Why would I get those CDs? I could get the same feeling out of looking at the downloads of the day and seeing what people like and then putting my iTunes list on shuffle... it would just be completely random, and therefore serves no purpose that I cannot acheive on my own.

The first CD obviously would have a lot of variety because not everyone's Nubblies ID is the same (though recent theories may disagree). Just because you're picking a song that represents your Nubblies ID as a whole or part of it, does not mean that you will be restricted in your choices. You're the one that defines your Nubblies ID. Ugly Bastard, if you think Ugly Bastard is a fairly "Imagine"y type person, then so be it. I was already planning on picking something like "Smack My Bitch Up" or "Hypermusic" or "Micro Cuts" because it felt right for Titan... it just felt like common sense to me. This is going to be a compilation album for Nubblies and I will represent myself and my musical tastes appropriately.

I didn't say restricting genre's, thats not what I said at all, I said using a theme though. You can still have Muse and Lennon on the same album. We just want there to be some relative connection. Otherwise everything is just random. Variety is good, sheer randomness is not. We'll end up with 5 different disks of 65 odd completely random songs. If we use a general theme idea, then at least there is something tying the disks together, there is a common cause or use for each compilation.

I think most people would agree that compilations are made with some sort of theme or idea in mind.

If I just wanted a bunch of songs, I'd just download them all, but having a theme gives purpose to the compliation.

I say everyone picks whatever type of song they want. That's what makes us all unique individuals. I like knowing that on the same CD that's going to have John Lennon's Imagine, and Muse's Hypermusic; could also have Notorious B.I.G. and Beethoven. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I think restricting member's choices for this CD is a poor idea. Thanks anyway.... -Ugly Bastard

It's okay to make one album that's all a bunch of random stuff, but if you did that for all of them it would just be ridiculous. Why would I get those CDs? I could get the same feeling out of looking at the downloads of the day and seeing what people like and then putting my iTunes list on shuffle... it would just be completely random, and therefore serves no purpose that I cannot acheive on my own. The first CD obviously would have a lot of variety because not everyone's Nubblies ID is the same (though recent theories may disagree). Just because you're picking a song that represents your Nubblies ID as a whole or part of it, does not mean that you will be restricted in your choices. You're the one that defines your Nubblies ID. Ugly Bastard, if you think Ugly Bastard is a fairly "Imagine"y type person, then so be it. I was already planning on picking something like "Smack My Bitch Up" or "Hypermusic" or "Micro Cuts" because it felt right for Titan... it just felt like common sense to me.
