Making my address the return address is a fantastic idea. Good work.
Updated list... (Bold = thanks for pm'ing your address) People who are in Repug Blonde Tits Shaw Tempest UB ID GWB IM BDH Stab Also, I'm okay with sitting it out to moderate. I can live vicariously through tits with giving a good gift while keeping the giver of her gift a secret. As such, I'm making myself the organizer only. Still keeping this open until tomorrow night. Wednesday or so, I'll randomize the shit and PM out the assignments. I'll also post some guidelines and shit so we're all on the same page. |

People won't have a hard time knowing if their secret Santa is HCW or me, but will they be able to guess which one of us it is!?
Also it would be hilarious if Gaz had HCW and I be secret Santas. |
![]() The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. ![]() |

Alright assholes, let's put some general guidelines on paper.
This is a terrific idea, the brainchild of Repug. It will be a shitload of fun for all if everyone gives it some Grade A effort. It will fall on its face if people half ass it and wait to the last minute to get something together. If you see yourself with a chance of not following through with this, please remove yourself from the list.. I mean, this should go without saying, but each Secret Santa is sending their person a package because they're going to be getting a package themself. It's the main motivation. If even one person doesn't follow through, it will fuck things up bigtime and severely hurt the chances of this working in following years. Please follow through. Now...some general guidelines. Since this is the first time we've done this and really no one knows what to expect, we need to set some general expectation for gift quality. While setting a hardline, bottom-dollar number isn't exactly ideal, it's probably the best way to level things. I propose we set a general minimum of $20 spent. Again, it's not necessarily about the cash spent, though. Effort is going to be more valuable than dollars. Along this same vein of thought, it will be much more enjoyable for the recipient if you collect a few items, box them (maybe even wrap separately), and ship them to that person. In other words, ordering something from Amazon and putting your person's address as the "ship to" address isn't going to be the best delivery. Other randoms that have been mentioned: Yes, 2 people will probably be stuck shipping overseas (unless GWB or HCW get one or the other...or each other). It's a necessary evil. Look at it this way: At least you're not them. They both will very probably have to ship overseas. The rest of you only may have to ship overseas. The glass is half full. I'm not sure what that does for shipping costs, but it could easily be compensated with extra creativity with your gift...or, if you're in a situation to do so, adding a bit to the $20 minimum. Either way. As Ugly suggested, feel free to use my address as the return address if you'd like your identity to remain completely anonymous. I'll include my address in the assignment PM's that I'll be sending out later. On that note, your anonymity is going to be as secure as you want it to be. I will be the only person that knows each person's secret santa...and I'm not part of this exchange. Unless someone gets a mailbomb and the FBI gets involved, I won't be divulging any of this information to anyone. Of course, you're free to give out any info that you want. If you'd like to gloat about the item you gifted, feel free. That's your prerogative. Speaking of gloating, I'd love to see all recipients post a detailed photojournal of their packages as they're opened. This project is all about the end result. Please share with great detail. ...and I think that about wraps it up. If anyone has any proposed amendments to the things in this post, pipe up soon. I'll do the random match tomorrow and send out assignments. Also, for clarification's sake, this isn't a pairing type deal. If Person A is Person B's secret santa, that doesn't mean that Person B is Person A's secret santa. Each assignment is going to be random. And lastly, if you want in on this and haven't said anything yet, you have ~24 hours to join up. Please make a note in the thread and PM me your address. That should do it. I am on an extremely tight budget at the moment. For example my family is only going to receive cards with a self-composed poem about all of the surprise bills i received the last couple of weeks.
I am down for the idea, I certainly have some great gifts to send, but I can't say that I can commit to spending a minimum of $20 or sending something over seas. So I am in as long as I can send a box of random WIN to someone in the U.S. ... otherwise I'll have to respectfully withdraw. |

How about instead of saying, "Spend $20," we say "Send a box with ~$20 of value inside."
I mean, like I said above, setting a price minimum is dumb IMO...but, at the same time, I think there should be a solid goal and expectation for each person. |

Someone clarify this for me: is this a (1) "haha funny" secret santa, a (2) "thanks for the thoughtful gift" type thing, or a (3) "dear god why did you mail me cat feces" endeavor....

If any of you get a candle, go ahead and scrape the wax to the middle. You might find a nice little nugget to relax the mind for a while
. Not that I've shipped weed in a candle or anything. (10) |
