Fruit, you genius bastard. I found myself just a minute ago ready to tackle the matter at hand and post the same exact post (well, maybe not the same exact post, but the same exact point) that you did.
Thank you for saving me some time. The other night I was listening to some old Ben Folds Five, and the song "Don't Change Your Plans" came on, and I found it to be the perfect example for how a song can have depressing lyrics, but still be upbeat and have that happy feel to it. Check the song out to hear what I mean. A depressing album HAS TO SOUND DEPRESSING. I find that I am more inclined to be depressed by a song when the atmosphere, the ambience is depressing. It's just that simple. Coheed and Cambria's new song "Blood Red Summer" might be a better example to many on this site. HOWEVER, SILVER AND COLD, I am in no way wanting you to change your submission. In fact, for UB and all, I never said anything of the sort. I stated that I wanted differentiation for individual submissions because I felt that certain people were only submitting hardcore songs, when I'm SURE that they know other music besides hardcore music. I don't mind hardcore music a'tall. Er....some of it I do mind, but the majority of it I can handle, and when I'm in a certain mood, hardcore music fucking rocks. When I'm depressed, hardcore music is the last thing I want to hear. But that's just me. Either way, everyone keeps their submissions. None will be changed. I just wanted to explain my stance, and state that I am not trying to sound elitist in any of my remarks, nor judgemental. Anyway, rock on, and hopefully this mix won't suck. Right now, I still think that it's going to turn out fine. |

Titan, I think I have a good suggestion for the compliation. Live's 'Turn my Head' is a great song to turn to when feeling a heavy loss. As far as depressional quality, the music is gut wrenching in my opinion. They lyrics are less story and much more interpretable poetry but I think that might lend to the public appeal.
That and Toad the Wet Sprocket's 'Pray Your Gods'. It's almost morbid how powerful this song is (Again, in my opinion). The music is styled in a heavenly, old latin kind of way. The lyrics are about deep disillusionment, which I think we can all relate to at some point in our lives. That's my 2 cents. I haven't heard any of the complilations (I'm pretty new to the site) but I like the idea a lot. |

Silver, I almost made a post responding to Fruit's which stated "While I'm sure many people would agree with your basic point, they'll be too blinded by their own perception of their choice to make such considerations"; now I wish I would've... | |

Percipere, that Toad The Wet Sprocket song is a doozy. If my recollection of it remains correct, I do believe that that would be the best choice for your NubDep submission.
However, I am not you, as many have pointed out, so this post is only directed towards you as advice. Nothing more, nothing less. |

Hmm... Yeah, I think that the Toad song seems to fit more the personality of the nubblites forum. I read through a fair number of old posts and think that there are a lot of people out there who would appreciate the feel of disillusionment in the Toad song. So, Titan, I'd like to make that my offical submission.
Thanks for the advice Combat Chuck! |

Jesus... I really didn't want to do this, but I'm sick of fighting over a damn compilation and the only reason I wasn't changing my song is because I wanted to take a stand against this whole issue.

Pliedes... this isn't the "*Makes new thread" thread haha. Anyways. I realize I have the final say and really I had thought about posting this song, but I thought that it had already been on another comp. and then this whole ordeal happened, and I didn't want to change it just because of the standing up for my opinion part. And I really would rather have this song on the compilation as I am listening to it right now.

I've decided to change mine as well. Instead of Vanessa Carlton's Greensleeves which may actually be a depressing song, I'll be suggesting Los Del Rio's Macarena which reminds me of the ridiculously unnecessary conflict which ensues when Nubblites attempt to make a compilation album and conqequently makes me depressed.
Also, I'm surprised how quickly we actually got this done. All I need to finalize it is: rla128: Denison Witmer Broken - 3:19 If you (or anyone else) has this and could upload this to Nubblies for the sake of downloading, that would be great and we could get this (and possibly the next comp) done before Xmas break. In other news, you can count me in as one of those new Billy Talent fans. [ December 08, 2003, 08:15 PM: Message edited by: Titan ] |
