Just a few days ago I started lifting weights again, im trying to get in the habit of doing it every other day like I used to. Yesterday was the 2nd time now ive lifted, and today my right shoulder is pretty damn sore, but my left hardly is at all. Any idea why? Im left handed, and I do the same amount of weight on both sides. Is it maybe just because im left handed so my right arm doesnt get worked out as much?

Actually there's a much more scientific explanation. The right side of the body responds to lifting, or any exercise, in a much different way than the left. You'll see similar results when you decide to do your legs as well. If you're really interested, you can read more about it here.

Best of luck with getting back into your routine.

That's how I justified that reaction to lifting also.

On a side note, I know some of you guys are regular weight lifters. How long do you think it will take for noticable improvements if I lift every other day, dont change my diet, and dont take any sort of supplements?

If you dont' change your diet you'll be lucky to see slight change in one month. Diet in my opinion is a key factor in weightlifting, namely upping your protein intake, especially soon after your workout. Also, get lots of sleep and rest, lots of people think that lifting will get them more muscle, when it's actually how much you destroy the shit out of yourself when you're lifting, then sleeping to build it all back. I don't know what your views on supplements are, but it's going to be hard to get your ideal protein intake if you don't at least use protein shakes.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

Yea Blonde's right. You won't notice much if you don't change your diet. You don't have to take supplements; but they work as an easy, convienent, and cheap way to consume protein. Protein's expensive, and its hard to always have the appetite to eat as much as you should; protein shakes are great because they're cheap (think $$ per gram of protein) and they're not that filling.

I don't really consider protein shakes a supplement. You're just adding protein to your diet in a different format. When I think of supplements I think of shit like Creitin and Xyience which I have never really trusted.

suppliments = supplimenting your diet. therefore, shakes are suppliments to your regular food intake.

Creatine is fine too, it has been around for a long time and therer really has been no negative effects, with the exception of some stupid kids cramoping because they tripled the dosage and didn't add water to their diet.

Nathan, you have to eat right and if you want to gain some size you need to have the apporpriate amount of calories and proetin to gain. Well, gain and recover. You tear the muslecs when you lift and you need protein and quality carbs to for recovery.

Plus, bitches like guys wiht muscles.

The first month would be the easiest to get away with eating like shit, if you are discipline with your diet you wont really ever need supplements, but the fist you should buy would be a multi vitamin, then protein, then anything sold by multiple compaines, not something that somebody claims as unique.

Alright well its been about a week now. I just finished my 4th workout as of today, taking a day break in between each. I rotate between 3 different workouts. One being arms and shoulders, the 2nd being chest back and stomach, and the third being legs.

I think after another week or so I am going to be looking at trying to get in the habit of working out everyday, or at least 5 times a week would be nice. Never doing the same muscle groups 2 days in a row.

As for my diet, ive yet to change it. I dont eat the greatest, but not the worst either. Im 6'1, about 160-165 lbs. If anything that might be due to a good metabolism though.

I do plan to stick with lifting for awhile. I dont have crazy goals of becoming a world's strong man or something, but I definetely want to tone up and put some mass on. The school year is the best time for me to stay motivated, since the majority of my friends are off to college, which leaves very little distractions.

I would possible be interested in taking protein supplements or something, but I honestly dont know where to start. As of the last few days I started taking some one a day vitamins of my dads I found. I figured they couldn't hurt any... this is what they are http://www.one-a-day.com/products/menshealth.shtml.

Is that the type of multi-vitamin im looking to be taking, or no? Any help with me sticking with this, and seeing some results would be appreciated it. Again im not looking to set world records here or something, and changing my diet, especially the beer drinking on the weekends is almost near impossible, so lets try to avoid that idea all together, even though its probably going to slow my results.

Vitamine Shoppe just totally re-vamped their private label stuff, and it's good. They sent me a bunch of stuff to test and I really like it.

Get some Whey protein to add to your diet during the day in between meals. Get some Casien protein to have right before bed.

Also, Thier Crea-Glu-Tech is good as well.

I checked that site out a bit... I was wondering what you think of me ordering these 2 products.

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/browse/...+Prot+Nat+Choc
and
http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/browse/...colate+Supreme

That would cost about $60 after shipping, and is roughly 30 casein servings, and 80 whey servings. Would it be pointless to take the casein say every other night, and the whey only once a day? The actual products suggest at least once a day each, and up to 3 times a day, but of course they are going to tell you the maximum amounts when your paying for it.

How much powder you use should be decided by how much protein you get from real food each day. Pick an amount as a daily goal, 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight is given as a guideline but might be a little higher than needed, and whatever you don't get from real food get from the powders.

Well see thats sort of the problem. I dont intend, at least not anytime soon, to do anything drastic to my diet. Its not like I eat horribly or anything, but im not eating strictly meats or a ton of high protein things either.
