I read a few articles about why Norton wasn't involved in this one. One article quoted the studio as saying something along the lines that "he did not get along with the other actors". Norton's publicist replied that Ed Norton was good friends with some of the actors well before he worked with them in the movie. His publicist went on to say that they believed the studio just didn't want to pay as much money for Norton, which is why they chose an actor they could pay much less.

I saw somewhere that he's notoriously difficult to deal with, and that he often insists on having his parts re-written to suit his whim; so the director just opted not to deal with it.

No source on that though.

At first I was like fuck this, they're going to ruin a classic. After the preview, I dunno, it looks pretty true to the original. Casting looks great for Curly and pretty good for Moe and Larry. Moe is perhaps the most "off" in my eyes but still not bad.

I don't know, the Farrelly brothers wrote/directed such comedy classics as Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, and There's Something About Marry. Not saying this means it'll be anything good, as these guys also made Hall Pass which sucked ass, but I'd like to think this gives the film a better chance of being funny/worthwhile.
