The World Cup is the best event known to this planet. More than 150 million people watched the opening game between Germany and Costa Rica. No event captures the world's attention like the World Cup. And why not? Patriotism is at an all time high as everyone cheers for their own and other countries. You can watch European powerhouses get beat by miniscule African nations, and see some of the best players in the world, some just starting their careers, others trying to go out on top.
What makes soccer the best sport on Earth is that it can be very complex, but its requirements are so simplistic. For soccer, all you need is some people and a ball, no matter how makeshift. It's accessible to everyone in every country. In most countries, soccer is all they've got, or at least all they care for.
One thing is for sure, whoever wins the World Cup is actually the world champion, unlike our crappy American sports, where they just say they are.
