Does anyone else have an interest in this subject? I love it because it's not like most jobs where things are already figured out and the job becomes about effeciency. With astronomy it's the unknown, and the more we learn the more fascinating it becomes. For those of you who don't know much about space I'll list a few things you might not have known:

The speed of light travels 86,287 miles per second. It is the fastest known force in existance.

When you hear the term "light year" that means light traveling at the speed of 86,287 miles takes an entire year to get from point A to point B.

Our galaxy (The milky way)has over 2 billion stars in it and is roughly 90,000 light-years across.

The visible universe is 15 million light years across.

If you traveled any faster then the speed of light you would be going backwards.

Einstien proved that time is relative. The faster you move the slower time goes.

Space and time have a shape. Picture a sheet pulled tight at all four sides and imagine setting a bowling ball in the middle. The sheet would sink down. That is just how space works only planets and stars are the bowling balls (when using this analogy). That is why light curves towards planets.

Black holes are stars that have used up their energy and begin to implode in on themselves. A black holes gravity is so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape it.

some argue that we'll never go across the universe, because even if we go as fast as light it would take 15 million years (probably much longer). That is where worm holes come in. Going back to the bowling ball analogy and how space and time have a shape...If you had that sheet and put an even heavier bowling ball in it and then heavier and heavier eventually the sheet would tear. That same thing can be applied to space. By tearing into space you could theoretically cause a rip in space time and jump from point A to point B directly without covering the distance in the traditional sense of the word. Of course that is way beyond our technological capabilities...

Scientists at stanford, in a contained lab, accelerated particles faster through a tube. The idea was to break them through thin sheets of paper at the end of the tube and front of the tueb. These particles accelerated faster then the speed of light and the end of the tubes sheet was broken before the front of it meaning the particles were going backwards...Time travel may be possible.

String theory, in the most simplest of terms I can think of, is the idea that there is a infinite ammount of univeres all piled up on eachother in a sense where every possibly outcome has/is happened/happening. It's really confusing.

Anyway I guess I kind of am rambling now but jesus shit this stuff interests me.

Einstein didn't prove anything... he theorized.

But yes, I often think that if I had the chance to start over again... I would seriously consider physics as a career. It's something I have great interest in, but no history... and I'm quite a bit behind the game by now.

I find quantum mechanics particularily interesting... especially quantum computing, where binary is no longer the root rather multiple stages of the atom are used.

This I find particularily interesting:

Quote:
For example, a system of 500 qubits, which is impossible to simulate classically, represents a quantum superposition of as many as 2500 states. Each state would be classically equivalent to a single list of 500 1's and 0's. Any quantum operation on that system --a particular pulse of radio waves, for instance, whose action might be to execute a controlled-NOT operation on the 100th and 101st qubits-- would simultaneously operate on all 2500 states. Hence with one fell swoop, one tick of the computer clock, a quantum operation could compute not just on one machine state, as serial computers do, but on 2500 machine states at once!
http://www.cs.caltech.edu/~westside/quantum-intro.html

So it's not astronomy, hell it's hardly related to what you are talking about, but physics man. I absolutely love physics.

"In that 1905 paper, Einstein pointed out that because you could not detect whether or not you were moving through the ether, the whole notion of an ether was redundant. Instead, Einstein started from the postulate that the laws of science should appear the same to all freely moving observers. In particular, observers should all measure the same speed for light, no matter how they were moving.

This required abandoning the idea that there is a universal quantity called time that all clocks measure. Instead, everyone would have his own personal time. The clocks of two people would agree if they were at rest with respect to each other but not if they were moving. This has been confirmed by a number of experiments, including one in which an extremely accurate timepiece was flown around the world and then compared with one that had stayed in place. If you wanted to live longer, you could keep flying to the east so the speed of the plane added to the earth's rotation. However, the tiny fraction of a second you gained would be more than offset by eating airline meals."

Repug, you do realize that what you just posted is a theory and not a proof... right?

To this day it's still "Einsteins theory of relativity," not a law or anything like that.

You've got to be kidding me! Repug posts interesting topics and gets conversation rolling about his posts, unlike many of the jj.net jackasses that just fill up the forums with chatroom garbage. Amazing how you can say he's not a good poster when you've got 2600 posts in six months.

Keep it up Repug.

Nice come back!

My point:
Be original instead of taking other peoples ideas and turning them into a bracket of nubblies most hated. Also learn to be a leader as opposed to being a follower.

Is that clear enough for you or do I have to write it in retard?

Eat shit felix you queer. If you were half as smart as you think you are, you'd realize that I'm only talking shit to him to get him to post (which he hasn't been doing lately). This was like the second thing you've ever said that didn't have to do with how good you are at poker and video games, so keep quiet you little bitch, grown people are talking.

I theorize time is an illusion of the interaction between things. I don't think we ever move forward, it's all just right "now".

Malice, if you had any reading ability about the first grade, you would be able to see this post in your thread.

Now that we're done proving you can read, lets move on to your inability to count. I created 4 polls (16,8,4,2).

It was a nice gesture to create a most hated thread, but like normal, you just fell short. You had to recreate the thread b/c the first one sucked. Since you still fell short, I created a much more entertaining group of polls (or a tournament) which obviously is popular since so many people are voting in it.

And for you "nice comeback" comment... it's only amusing that you said that. That was my comment to you with my post, but since you can't comprehend thoughts passed that of a five year old, you wouldn't understand that.

Oh and...
