Happy Martin Luther Coon Jr. Day! Glad we the economy shuts down for a day to honor all those black men who don't have jobs by giving them a day off from the jobs they don't have.

Oh, and I work way more hours than a teacher, year round without summers off or 2 weeks at xmas or spring breaks, so they can all suck a big bag of hairy dicks.

Almost none, because when I have extra work to do I have to stay at the fucking office all night to do it. I can't just pack it up and do pantsless with a bottle of beer in front of the TV like a teacher can.
Not to mention that if you have a significant amount of work to do at the end of the day as a teacher, you're either in your first 5 years or you're doing it really, really wrong. But that's only according to the 10 or so teachers in my family. And then, of course, there are people like my husband who work 12 hour days, 5 days a week all year round. They also don't get MONTHS of vacations over the summer. Or 2 weeks off at xmas. Or a week at spring break. That's what is known as the "real world" and most of the teachers who bitch about their jobs have never, ever experienced it. |

![]() The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. ![]() |

So, with at least a Masters and 20+ years of federal experience. Criminal Justice courses are not particularly difficult, and there is always somewhere wanting to do somewhat specialized classes. I think it wouldn't be too hard to teach something as simple as CJC 101. I'm pretty confident I could compile a curriculum for a basic Immigration Law course at the college level now.

Ahhh, gotcha.
I'm sure that there are a lot of things I have overlooked as I haven't looked into it all that much, yet. Sounds like you're more knowledgable about the field. Also, who knows in 20+ years, I could have absolutely no desire to do it. I can't fathom working for $10/hr after having an awesome career, unless money was no issue and you absolutely loved whatever it was that you were doing. |

Yeah, teachers suck. They only have to deal with undisciplined kids, arrogant and asshole parents, produce a unique environment for students to learn in, have the weight of knowing the future generations are in their classroom, no pay raises or benefits for being better than other teachers (no motive to achieve other than self-service), and a salary that doesn't allow them to live better than a middle-middle class life. Fuck teachers who volunteer their time to help students and coach athletics for some boozer's child who needs to be anywhere but home. Fuck the teachers who can be fired for getting a DUI, because it says they are a poor model for students and must be held to a higher standard to keep their job. Fuck all the teachers. Who needs them anyway?

Yeah, they're SO much better than retail clerks, waitresses, cube drones and IT guys who have to deal with undisciplined, arrogant and asshole bosses and coworkers, meet quotas, have the weight of knowing they could be fired at any minute for no reason, no pay raises or benefits at all, and a salary that is less than half of what starting teachers make. Fuck those other workers who volunteer their time to help students and volunteer at soup kitchens or with animals at local shelters, just to try to make a difference. Fuck ALL WORKERS who can be fired for getting a DUI, because employers won't hire anyone with a felony. Fuck all workers. Who needs them anyway? Teachers are whiny pussies who need to put on their big boy pants and deal with the fact that EVERY JOB SUCKS. Believe it or not. That's why you have to pay people to work. Because it SUCKS.

Goddamn, you said my thoughts exactly and put it better than I did. Teachers think they are all high and mighty because they are "raising the future" and all that other bullshit.

Meh teachers are overrated. I hate when people are all like, "it's not fair that baseball players make millions and teachers only make $35k... wah wah wah wah." Maybe I'm an anomaly, but I don't remember a god damn thing I was taught before like 16 other than that Sammy Sosa fucking rules.

"retail clerks, waitresses, cube drones and IT guys"
How many of these jobs require a 4-year degree, all kinds of governmental prodding into your past, and continued education classes? I'm pretty sure I don't have to pay $50k to go get a job as a waiter or waitress of which my own motivation for doing well is getting tipped better by performing better. |

And yes, you do need a degree to get into most office and IT work. My job could be done by someone with no degree, but HR won't even look at your resume without one. Just like anyone who passed 4th grade can teach 3rd grade, but good luck getting hired without a degree. And if you had ever worked as a waiter you'd know that the money you make has very, very little to do with how well you work. The biggest factor by far is how busy the restaurant is and how many tables the management lets you take at a time. But no, only teachers are martyrs and the rest of us just sit back and get fanned by slaves with grape leaves while making a million dollars an hour to eat ice cream.

Key words were "After Scholarships." Don't forget the cost of those schooling hours NOT going to having a job which makes money, the $3k or so in books that you're likely forgetting about, AND all the other materials that you need for school as a whole (as in Ball State now requires it's education majors to purchase a MacBook as part of their program.)
I'm not saying that teachers are the best thing in the world, and I do believe many of them suck. What I am saying is they are far better than the bottom of the food chain treatment several of you are giving them. Should teachers bitch about the money? No. Should they bitch about their career choice? No. Do they deserve respect from those who have never even TRIED to teach a class, let alone be in that position for one day? Yes. |

I've had a job since I was 14. At least 20+ hours a week. And still got the scholarships. And yes, I also worked full time all through college. As far as the ancillary costs, welcome to the world. I have also been a substitute teacher for a few years after graduation, so blow me. And while they obviously aren't the "bottom of the food chain" they are NO BETTER than any other job. They aren't the saints you're making them out to be, nor do they deserve any more respect than anyone else out there working for their living.
