I don't know if you guys have been following this whole CNBC fued with Jon Stewart that began with santelli but Jon stewart pretty much browbeat Jim Cramer last night, especially when he started running old clips.

Wow... just saw it on YouTube. I am a big Cramer fan, and still am after seeing that interview, but I've gotta hand it to Jon Stewart... he owned Cramer's ass in that interview. Honestly, I'm surprised Cramer agreed to appear on the show with his pants effectively down to his ankles as soon as taping started. He's a smart guy, Harvard Law grad, frankly I'm surprised he let himself get THAT caught off guard by Jon Stewart.

All of that said... I think Jon Stewart is a bubble. I think the guy is very good at what he does, but he's running a little ahead of his expectation at this point. At some point, people are going to have to throttle back their viewpoint of him. At the end of the day, he's just some liberal dude (in a time where being liberal is very popular) who is good with words. Eventually that won't be as relatively admirable.

Completely agree with Stewart having staying power. Although he takes many a stance to the extreme, the show is funny and will continue to be awesome. I still, however, like the Report better.

They are just as much culpable as any other media outlet; Stewart anyway. Colbert at least puts some effort into humor, whereas Stewart is "BUSH SUCKS LULZ" "AIG got bonuses, LOLZ" bullshit over and over and over.

He picks whichever requires less intellectual effort, being his "funny" character or his morally outraged "voice of a generation" and if you dare to interact with him, he simply shifts to the other and acts offended, its cowardly. He is an intellectual coward.

And, as this post clearly shows, his fans do the same, they take him seriously when he says what they want to hear, but when he is questioned they get butthurt and act like it is some big meany picking on a poor comedian. Its a joke.

Colbert at least has the balls to stay in character or out of it, and engage in a conversation fully in one or the other without acting like a crybaby bitch.

I completely agree with Joe S, and frankly, could not explain it any better. Ever since the beginning of the presidential election I have hated John Stewart.

There used to be a saying about how the jester in the King's court was the only one able to mock the King without having his head chopped off. In many ways, John Stewart is filling this role, and the problem is the idiot youth in this country truly believe every word he says -- liberalism is popular right now.

I can't wait until Goldman Sachs returns the stimulus money and poaches off talent from AIG and any other institution who can't afford to return the money, OR can't properly compensate the people who are necessary for their recovery (thanks to 90% bonus taxes). I hate the rabid-foaming-at-the-mouth mentality that Americans view the bonus issue with. Brilliant. While a company is down, kick them even more by removing compensation from their strategic plans, and prevent them from retaining and hiring the best/brightest people who can actually help them recover. Fuck you John Stewart. Fuck you.

I'm so upset about the situation it almost brings me to tears when I think of what America has become. Nobody is staying at these banks. The only people staying are SURPRISE the ones who cant get jobs anywhere else because they aren't good enough. The profitable traders and bankers have all left. They are working for private hedge funds and trading firms now where they can still make money. The government bought equity stakes in banks, and is now doing everything in their power to make their shares worthless by driving away every employee worth their salt.

We'll never get anyone with brains to only work for a several hundred thousand dollars a year! I mean, it's not like brain surgeons or rocket scientists would ever deign to work for so little.

You obviously don't know how this works, or how it happened.

Many of these traders make their banks $$$$ MILLIONS even during the crisis. Many of them did deals which created value or profit for their firms. But nobody gets bonuses, even the good ones. How can you call the thousands who came out of the BEST schools in America, the ones who worked the HARDEST and who were the SMARTEST dumbasses? You could never be a trader at Goldman Sachs. If you are jealous at least admit it, as I will, about the amazing talent at these financial institutions, you don't need to talk shit just because the world got caught up in a bubble. It was everyday ordinary people who lived beyond their means for too long that got us into this. Not every Wall St. Banker. There were some bad bankers, who put on bad bets, but 90% of them were good. I can't think straight when I feel pure anger. I feel pure rage and hatred for people who blindly want to hurt america. Ironic that I'm blindly saying these things, but not so in that these thoughts consume all the time. I think about these things logically and rationally. Then I get angry. And I just want to say FUCK YOU AMERICA I'M NEVER COMING BACK. But I probably will.
