Well, I Drink Alone, lessee here.....you want to know about Cursive.
They're hard emo. But NOT PUNKY EMO. They just got categorized into the "emo" category by stupid queers who think that everything coming out of the Saddle Creek label is "emo". But the lyrics are quite "emotionally" driven. And fucking smart. I don't think that I've heard more intelligent lyrics that are pretty straight-forward since I listened to Kenny Chesney's latest record (just to let you know, that was a JOKE). They just added a cello player to their 4-piece band, and I couldn't be happier. They definitely don't write linear music, pretty much opting for denser sounding songs rather than songs that immediately catch you from the first listen. However, that doesn't mean that you have to give it 4 listens to "get it". There were some gems on this album that jumped out at me from the very start. I remember being really skeptical about this album (The Ugly Organ), even though everyone was raving about it. I'm only sorry that it took me that long to finally pick it up. Just check them out any way you can. They're worth it. Go to www.saddlecreek.com and check out their mini-page. That should give you some free mp3's to check them out. Do it. NOW. The Mars Volta is awsome, but I liked Omar better in At the Drive In. And even though alot of people i talk to don't like them, the rest of the band was awsome in Sparta.

Ya that is true, but I like it with the sound of At the Drive in more so than Mars Volta. Then again Mars Volta was a completely different Omar than At the Drive in, much more actual singing, you know what I mean.

Thrice is good, but by no means in my top list. They are high up there, but just not quite in the top five.

jeez. i like so many different bands that i couldn't even begin to make a top five...
plus it would probably be completely different than any of the previously mentioned bands... just because i'm weird like that. |
