Saliva in South Bend - Nubblies.net Forums

Last friday, I happened across a free ticket to see Saliva at Homestead in South Bend. Never being one to turn down anything free, I went and here is how it was...
three opening bands:
the first one was good, didn't get their name.
the second one sucked ass, I think they were called greenleaf, or greencock, something green.
the third one was breaking benjamin, this was the high point of the show.
then, saliva takes the stage. I don't know if any of you are familiar with this band or know what they sing, I can tell you that I knew two songs to expect but recognized about 6. they were good and got the crowd, consisting of everything from goth kids to bikers, really into it. they played a couple radio friendly songs that everyone, including me recognized... then it happened, the lead singer started talking about how saliva isn't a political band, they're not a religious band, they're basically a party band, but they wrote one song after september 11th to honor the men and women of this country, it was called 'pride of america'... they said that if they had been in control of the country the day that the shit happened, they would have 'been dropping nukes all over the middle east by lunchtime'. at this point a small sect of the crowd, clearly in the minority, turned their backs on the band... the band shut up and broke into their psuedo-patriotic anthem about killing anything and everything from that region. a lot of the crowd wasn't too happy with the backturners, so as they were making their way to the back of the room idle threats were made and one fight almost broke out.
now, I realize that these motherfuckers have the right, or privelege, to say whatever the fuck they want on stage, but how can they not realize that what they are saying is completely fucking idiotic. furthermore, why is it that out of, probably, over 1000 people, only a group of 10-20 made it visible that they didn't agree with what was being said.
This probably doesn't interest anyone else here, but I found it more than a little distrubing that most people there were more than willing to be spoon-fed whatever the band says then cheer for more.
