Constellation Iphone App - Nubblies.net Forums

At my sister in law's house and they have an Ipad I and II. I wanna install that app one of you guys showed me (I think it was Gaz or DH) where it shows you the stars and planets wherever you point it.

Does it work by GPS or Camera? I figured it was just GPS but couldn't find the app on Ipad 1 (which lacks a camera) so I wasn't sure if that's why.

Mine is on Android and called Google Sky Map and uses gps + compass. I think the iOS equivalent is Star Walk

In a related note: I don't get the tablet craze. I spend more time online than 99% of the population and I have no interest in owning one. Part of me questions if it's a function of people being willing to buy anything Apple makes.

Disclaimer: I am addicted to my iPhone which in many ways is just a mini-tablet.

They are pretty awesome, although I wouldn't use it for serious computing. You definitely don't want to have one for your main computer, but as much as I have always been anti-mac, they're really onto something with the UI and the ease of use with the Iphone/Ipad.

The Ipad is really just a big Iphone -- but it's still awesome for reading the news, or watching a movie, or playing a game, or watching Youtube vids...it's like an interactive fun-pad.

It's just damn fun.

If you had to chose, which one would you rather have, an ipad or iphone?

I already have a quality smartphone, but it's not an iphone.

Right, exactly. It's $500 toy. I guess I'm just amazed at the number of people who have $500 to blow on a toy that has no actual function for their lives other than to provide them slack-jawed entertainment. My girl's boss just bought her one for work. I was like, "what work function could you possibly need an iPad for that your iPhone wasn't already handling?!" She was like, "I dunno."

While I definitely think an iPad has some merits, I agree wholeheartedly with UB that it's purely entertainment. Furthermore, I would argue that there are only a handful of scenarios where an iPad is better than a laptop.

I would highly suggest getting a $500 laptop over an iPad if you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

The iPad was invented before the iPhone. In a meeting at Apple, one guy simple said, This would make a great phone and the iPad was put on the shelf for several years.

At my school, every high school student will be getting an iPad next month, along with all the teachers. (This is due to a stupid state law that requires all money raised from the sale of buildings go to technology)

It's theirs to use. They'll have a purchase option when they graduate, but otherwise it comes back to the school (how outdated it'll be by then will be interesting to see the argument for assigned value).

I'm happy about it because these kids supposedly can't afford a $20 tuner/metronome but they'll be able to use a free app featuring both on their iPad.
