DELAND, Florida-- A skydiver lost both his legs when he struck the wing of a plane as he came down and later died from his injuries, officials said.
Cinematographer Albert "Gus" Wing III had already opened his parachute when he hit the plane that he had jumped from Saturday morning over an airport in DeLand, central Florida, police said. His legs were severed at the knees. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Fourteen other skydivers were in the air at the time of the accident, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Holly Baker said. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board were investigating. Mike Johnston, general manager of Skydive DeLand, said the accident was not common. "There are about 15 million jumps every year," Johnston told The Daytona Beach News-Journal. "I only know of one other case where a sky diver was struck by an airplane." Courtesy of: cnn |

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

During all of this, after you jump out, the plane goes into a nose dive and falls to the Earth faster than you do while you're in freefall. About the same time you open your parachute, the plane comes out of the nosedive and starts a controlled approach to the runway, which results in the plane being on the ground before the jumper. -Ugly Bastard PS: That's just a shitty example. I mean, it depends on the plane, the jumper's size parachute, and a million other variables. But in this fatality, the jumper was crossing the runway at the same time the plane was coming in to land. The two collided, the jumper lost his legs, and later died in the hospital. [ May 03, 2005, 08:24 PM: Message edited by: Ugly Bastard ]

He said the parachute was open though..wouldn't the plane take extra precautions in the first place to steer AWAY from the jumpers fall path, and also wouldnt he see the huge fucking parachute?

And, (why I'm choosing to fullfil your morbid mind with this is beyond me), the jumper that died is a very famous videographer; so he most certainly had a camera helmet on during the incident that would give you a 1st person view on everything. Don't expect to be able to see this footage though... -Ugly Bastard
