"I am hungry as hell."

It may seem that the expression "as hell" is completely meaningless. Hell is usually thought of as a place that is most thought of as being extremely hot and containing lots of fire in its environment. However, this is just one interpretation of Hell. The most defining component of a "hell" is that at least one aspect of Hell's environment is so extreme to humans or a specific individual that it is intolerable to the point of being tortuous and painful.

Alternate sentence:
"I am as hungry as I would be if I would be at a degree of hunger that is intolerable."
