so I was watching B.E.T. earlier and there was a guy wearing a FUBU tracksuit talking about how the United Negro College Fund helped him get into a college where he met his girlfriend, a contestant in the Miss Black America competition. Thank god for the NAACP.
Isn't it great that a city as close as Fort Wayne has a Black Newspaper? I wish there was a way I could get into an African-American only fraternity. I love hanging out at the annual Black Expo, it would probably be like that year-round. If you go to www.journeyoutdoors.com you'll find the african-american outdoor sports association. Did you know that there is the National Association of Black Scuba Divers, the National Brotherhood of Skiers, Association of Black Anthropologists, Association of Black Sociologists, African American Business Alliance, Black Chamber of Commerce, and so many others if you look. I'm so happy I found all of this shit, it almost makes me sick. I guess segregation is o.k. if you're black. Stab-
I know exactly how you feel, because such thoughts bounce around in my mind all the time. I have no problem with blacks or just about any other race on this planet. What I do have a problem with, is the fact that they are allowed to have segregated groups like that, but as soon as whites try to pull such a stunt, we get bitched at all the way to the Supreme Court. -Ugly Bastard |

Yeah, this type of thing pisses me off to no end. Imagine the outrage is there was a WET channel on television...where a black person was not seen. I can only imagine this would cause those silly darks to riot again ![]() | |

We do have a WET. It's almost every network channel except for FOX.
By the way, I was thinking last night, and I was wondering why the channel was allowed to be called the Black-ET channel. I would have thought this would have caused an uproar, causing the television execs to change it to AAET, or WUMNET* channel. *Wha's Up Mah Niggas |

I was waiting for someone to mention this Chuck. infact your view on the BET is similar to what mine was not to long ago, but the more I think about it, why wouldn't network TV be based on marketing to whites? american is a white country, that's a fact. Also whites dominate the TV market, i mean look at black neighborhoods, they all just share a TV that they stole from the fancy white housing buildings.
BET is not AAET for one very hypocritical reason. Black people need us (white america) to call them African Americans because calling them black or a nigger is offencive. Which i can understand, but why call themselves the same banned words? Maybe they just like to be able to use it without anyone being able to, kind of like a right for all the torture they were put through... 8 generations ago... just my thoughts... |

Alpha. Thoughts. Gold.
Alright, I was going to add this to my post up above, but due to Alpha posting before I could finish it, I just thought I'd rack another one up for the post count. Anyway, on the Blockbuster TV reel that runs in our store, there is a BET awards show commercial advertising the 3rd annual BET awards. Now, this commercial plays on the loop regularly, so that means it plays around 40 to 50 times during one of my shifts (I kid you not). So I notice things, and on the commercial, it states that the BET awards show has been the highest rated awards show for 2 years running. Well, seeing as how it's only aired 2 times, it's either a great track record for BET, or a load of bull plop. I'm guessing it's the latter of the two, seeing as how I've never heard of the BET awards until I saw these commercials. So I started hypothesizing, coming up with a few projections as to why the BET awards shows have 'garnered such high ratings' and why this year is going to give them the well-deserved three-peat triumph over all ya'll whitey awards shows on them utha wack netwirks. Maybe it's because.... ...in order to make the daytime TV show category fair, the BA (Black Academy) has pitted Starr Jones and Oprah against each other in a no-holds-barred, bitch-slap, winner-take-all-fest for two years straight. The first year had them in a tub of Jello, but then it was deemed that no one really wanted to see that kind of thing again. It's now become the highlight of the show. Clothed highlight mind you. This year, they might even surprise us and allow for a tag team. Starr Jones has already called Judge Joe Brown as her teammate, and Oprah...well, Oprah's got that other black judge. You know the one I'm talking about. ....it's the only place where you can see LL Cool J take home an award. Or be invited to be in attendance. He was the underdog of the first annual BET awards, but ended up snagging the Best Actor award for his portrayal of a 'black man' in Deep Blue Sea. A definite high point for the African-American male race in the biz. And by the crowd reaction during his speech, its gotsta be true that the 'Ladies Love' Cool James. ....it's the only time on TV where you can actually see roof raised properly. ....this year you can expect the camera to capture a fuming Denzel Washington, who was, for the third consecutive year, passed up for the privilege of hosting the ceremony. See, Denzel could understand the past two years, when he was one-upped by James Earl Jones (first annual) and Ving Rhames(second annual) as host. But this year, he was passed up for Li'l Romeo. Li'l Romeo? Damn, wha's Denzel gotta do to get some respect in this town? I tell you, Denzel is just fuming. Fuming! Expect some o' that famous clenched jaw folks. Expect it. ....a highlight of last year's show was host Ving Rhames not realizing that his mic was still hot while backstage waiting for Savion Glover to finish his opening tap routine. Thus, he muttered (i.e announced to the whole audience and viewing folks at home) that Savion's act was "...tired ass." He then added "Shit, how many time's we gotta see this kid click his heels anyway?" We assure you that Ving Rhames was quite aware that the backstage cameras were most definitely rolling as Savion hauled ass on Ving with one of his 'clicking' shoes, citing that "..at least he wasn't Radio Shack's bitch!" ....this year, they're actually going to let Gary Coleman on the premises. ....Dennis Rodman will show up in a dress and no one will care. Again. ....Spike Lee will show up in the same thing he's worn since 1983. ....there will be a moment of silence for the dearly departed career of Whitney Houston. This was requested by her husband, Bobby Brown, the jacked up fellow sitting in the corner over there. Sadly, no one has requested a moment of silence for the dearly departed career of Mariah Carey. Tough break, but that's how the biz goes. Maybe if Mariah Carey had been in a quality flick like The Preacher's Wife. Or The Bodyguard. Quality I tell you. Quality. ...Maya Angelou will recieve an honorary lifetime achievement award. In the documentary being shown honoring her, nude photos of Vanessa Williams will be subliminally flashed throughout its entirety, hopefully keeping at least the male demographic awake. Libraries and bookstores alike expect copies of Angelou's I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings to fly off of the shelves in the days follwing the awards. ....we'll actually see if Levar Burton really is wearing those Star Trek 'glasses' out in public just to get noticed. Man, Reading Rainbow just isn't enough to get the publicity these days, and you can't live off your fame from Roots forever. Besides, people got tired of calling him Kunta Kinte (or even Toby) a long time ago. ....they might air some of those Arby's commercials that have Barry White's voice in them. They're airing a new slogan: "Yeah, this beef is for the ladies". They think it might actually work. ....Bill Cosby won't be wandering around the crowd this year yelling at random people's children in jibberish. If you guys can come up with any other hypothetical reasons why the BET awards will take down the competition this year, feel free to add them. I just felt like getting the ball rolling. good idea.
...Chris Rock's ban continues this year for being to "white-friendly" ...Live footage will be shown of Malcolm X's grave as he rolls over for the third year in a row ...P. Diddy will give his first performance as his newly chosen name "Media God" |
