Default Meaningful Music -- That Fucking Sucks

I've been meaning to discuss this issue for a long time. That said, what is the easiest way to tell when someone is about to share a dog-shit song with? I'd like to paint a hypothetical picture here -- one which I'm sure many of you can relate to.

You're talking with a friend -- over drinks, during a car ride, etc. All of a sudden he stops everything and with a very excited look on his face he says, "Dude, you gotta hear this song I just got. It's SOOO powerful, and it really makes you think! SSHHHHHHhh, listen to the lyrics!! Seriously, SSHhhhh!" At this point you're willing to give your annoying friend's music a shot, despite the fact that the recording quality is terrible, or the vocals are so bad you can't understand the "awesome" lyrics. After about 30 seconds of pretending to enjoy the dog-shit music, with a stupid smile on your face, your friend looks at you intently for approval "Isn't this AWESOME!!! this guy is so talented. Like, he's good at singing, but it's his lyrics that are so meaningful. **End scenario.

If I'm actually somewhat close friends with a person doing this to me, I'll usually patronize them and tell them "it's okay". If I'm not, I'll usually tell them that it fucking sucked and that their taste in music is absolutely awful.

At this point, you may be wondering what the point of this thread is. The point is, the vast majority of "meaningful music" that I'm forced to hear is fucking terrible. Take for instance the genre of unkown rap, or "underground rap". These artists (if you can even call them that) sound a bit like Common, or old Kanye West. There lyrics are composed of "socially compelling issues", which almost always revolve around social inequity, growing up in "da hood", or some other commentary about what's wrong with our society. I fucking hate these artists/groups. I don't give a motherfuck how tough your youth was, or if you're concerned about minorities not being able to get jobs. That's not creative at all. It's the same mindless-fucking-drivel over and over.

SO, when someone forces me to listen to this horse-shit rap, and then procedes to tell me how moving it was, I honestly want to punch them in the gut. That type of rap is fucking boring. It's usually very unskilled, as in to say, the rhymes are awful and the vocals are shitty. Sure, these rappers may claim they're not in it for the money, but I would bet my life that if you offered them $1,000,000 to write a cd about money, drugs, hoes, cars, and guns, 99% of them would be more than happy to do so. They would throw their social commentary right out the goddamn window. And, even if they didn't, they would just end up like Kanye West: a fucking piece of shit who sucks more dick than a pornstar. I hate you Kanye.

Now, just to throw in my hypocritical disclaimer, I'm not claiming that people should listen to music solely for it's auditory quality. I'm just saying there are certain genre's of music that FUCKING SUCK. If you are one of those assholes who makes people listen to dog-shit music just because you think it's meanginful, then Fuck You. Despite how much these artists suck, people still seem to think they are truly moving. Coldplay is not moving or meaningful. Underground Rap is not moving or meaningful. Kanye West has less talent (both vocally and lyrically) than a can of Diet Dr. Pepper. ANY one guy playing a guitar by himself, and being narcissistic enough to record and distribute it, is a fucking douche. People like these are not talented, and do not produce meaningful music. End of story.

Smoke a cigarette and lie some more -- These conversations kill.
