I always explained it this way:
How many things would I do drunk that I wouldn't do sober? Thousands.
How many things would I do stoned that I wouldn't do sober? Maybe eat, laugh, and lay around a little more.
If alcohol is legal there is absolutely no reason marijuana shouldn't be. The government could regulate it and tax the hell out of it and it would still be a lot cheaper than what people are paying today at street value. It would prevent us from paying unreasonable tax dollars on pot dealers that probably aren't terrible people in a lot of cases. One of the main reasons I think they don't legalize it is public perception and you can't really test for it the same way you can take a breathalyzer when operating machinery or a vehicle.
