I haven't lived with my parents since 2003.
I agree with FC. This guy reminds me of someone I had to deal with at work a few days ago. He was an IT professional and an accountant, but he didn't know how to clear his browser's cache. This may have been the same person, actually. They have similar voices. Basically I'm just describing a dumb hillbilly piece of trash who lies about shit. This dad guy seems like one of those types. |

Also, I was under the impression that FC was being totally sarcastic. The daughter is an ungrateful bitch, like almost all 16 year olds are (me included at 16). IMO, the dad should have paid her hourly for her chores at minimum wage (or even above), and then charged her rent. She'd be in debt in the first week. Since when is it unreasonable to ask your kids to do chores? Amirite FC? Someone else who's old let me know if I'm wrong. That was a sweet .45 |

I guess, to me, the dad seems to be just as immature as his daughter (the apple doesn't fall far from the tree). Yes, his daughter is being a brat. But, it's HER Facebook wall to write whatever the fuck she wants to on it. Putting that fact aside, I think a parent getting mad about something their child posts on Facebook is about the most retarded thing I've ever heard of. Then, to take it to even higher levels of ridiculousness, he makes a fucking Youtube video of himself shooting his daughter's laptop BECAUSE of what she said on FACEBOOK to all of her 15 year old friends.
Guess how many fucks my dad would have given if I did something similar in my youth? Not a single fuck. If I had said something like that to his face, he'd have beaten the shit out of me, though. |

I'm on Papa Bear's side here. A girl denounced her family on a very public forum and, in doing so, painted herself as a very, very conceited girl (something which reflects more poorly upon the parent than the insults she directly gives).
The response is over the top, but it sends a very clear message and gets the job done. This is a fork in the little girl's life. By being humiliated publicly, it's possible that she'll stop being a gimmegimme cunt and start having a tiny shred of self worth. Or she'll harbor resentment and let this seed blossom into a tree of self-loathing and hatred. Better than being a conceited little bitch, though. |

Her life sucks relative to our lives, but that's because we're adults. Think back to being a kid. It wasn't much fun in retrospect. It was living in a box with a set of rules that had to be followed (that were more constraining than simple laws that all humans are meant to follow).
I think her life is perfectly okay. In her letter, she says that she falls asleep at 10pm because she's so tired (obvious over-dramatization) and has to lock her door so that she doesn't have to get up at 5am from her little brother being an asshole...not that her parents enforce those rules upon her. (basing this off of my recollection from my first viewing) In short: Does her life suck? Absolutely. But only relative to our lives. She's probably middle-of-the-road for 15 year old bitches. I understand that teenagers do stupid shit and this is just an example of that. Stupid shit needs to be nipped in the bud lest it become a life habit, though. I support the father's nipping. |

Based off of her complaints in the letter, her life is middle-of-the-road.
Her father permanently took her laptop away and replied to her public letter publicly. Sure, shooting a laptop is over-the-top in any situation...but that's the message the father was trying to convey. He doesn't want the video to be swept under the rug. He wants people to watch it. So he did something extreme. That doesn't define his day-to-day behavior. |

Sounds like FC had pretty reasonable parents or a bad memory. I did stupid ass shit when I was young all the time, stuff that probably wasn't a big deal in reality, but my parents emotionally reacted just as poorly, while lacking a handgun or a worldwide audience such as Youtube.
I'm not saying I would act like the dad did if I ever had kids -- I say that now, of course, but one of the purposes I ascribe to my own life is being "better" than the generation before me, and my big two would be : Never hitting my kids, and never leaving my kids financially wanting. That's not to mean I'm going to make it rain on them on a daily basis, but being poor sucks and life is hard enough as is. All that being said, if what this father said is true (And it has been brought up that he may be exaggerating a bit -- but so is the daughter probably), the daughter is clearly a spoiled little bitch. Is it probably the parents fault for letting her get that way in the first place and not nipping the problem in the bud earlier, thus possibly not needing to resort to such drastic measures? Sure. But measures are being taken now. FC RE: pleading case/girl needing a soapbox: That's what friends are for, in private, confidence. You have to realize that kids these days are much more indiscriminate with Facebook Friend requests and many of them have 1000+, if not multiple thousands of friends on facebook because of the popularity contest aspect of it. That's a pretty large and unnecessary audience to post a biased grievance, especially without it being a fair one or one that (she thought) her parents could respond to. TL;DR - Did her dad do the best possible thing in reaction to his daughter being a dumb bitch? No, probably not. He's probably a hardass and his daughter is probably stuck up and entitled. But the dad is probably more right, and it was hilarious to see him shoot up a laptop. |
