Every piece of food you eat, with very, very little exception has been domesticated and hardly even resembles the wild variety. Animals as well... all dogs were once wolves.
Edit: and it's not just something you can do, it requires lots of time for the plant or animal to evolve favorably to better suit you, therefore to be able to reproduce better by human selection. |

I know we domesticated dogs, silly.
However, it seems like your arguing that domestication and evolution are one in the same...which is clearly not the case as not all wild animals are domesticated (or wild plants, apparently). I asked how we domesticated bananas, which seems to be what you are saying, yet you're saying the plants did it themselves in some strange kind of self-acknowledgement of an attempt to preserve genetic fitness...and if that is the case, are the plants still not wild if they were not genetically altered by humans? EDIT: Dogs were not all "wolves", just untamed dogs; a wolf is a distinct breed of canine. Otherwise you're calling all stray dogs wolves...including poodles. |

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

Edit: jesus its hard to read your logic without being frustrated. So some plants and animals aren't domesticated and somehow this is proof that domestication isn't a form of evolution? Wow what a terrible argument. There are plenty of reasons why some plants and animals (such as the hippo) can't be domesticated, but I dont feel like telling you all about them, just take my word for it (or read a book called ' guns germs and steel' by jarred diamond. Domestication is one of the most fascinating things of all of human history, IMO, and it proves beyond a doubt that evolution is a very real thing. PS this is a drunk post. Edit Edit: you asked how we domesticated bananas and ill give you a brief summary: people eat bananas, but when they eat them they have to pick them... by picking them they increase the bananas chance of survival by spreading its seeds... primative people begin picking the best, tasiest, biggest bananas and eating them because its convenient... by the process of evolution the biggest, tastiest, most nutritious, biggest bananas survive, while their counterparts die, eventually all the good characteristics of the banana come out because when a human picks them they have a better chance of survival... eventually this process translates into intentional planting and cultivation, when the plant adapts to this process (or somewhere along this point) it has become domesticated, it will continue to evolve so long as it increases its chances of being reporoduced.

You know, as I posted those videos, this exact thought went through my mind: "I bet that highly conservative and critical DJ FC won't enjoy this at all"
I'd venture to guess you enjoyed Kanye's irrational statements on national live tv as funny because it made him look stupid, along with the sheer shock value; It's obvious our President doesn't hate black people. However, if there was a conservative comedian who got as much attention as Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert do, I probably wouldn't think they were very funny either, especially the jokes and stabs that actually have truths to them. Oh wait, yes i would, because I possess open-mindedness and the ability to objectively critique my chosen party. If you don't like the Daily Show or the Colbert Report, then I guess I don't expect you to like this. EDIT: On several side notes, I found it interesting that they actually let him come and address the nation at the Correspondent's Dinner. It's kind of a pretty risky move, as he publicly humiliated lots of people, the people that currently run our country in the process. I don't know if it's some form of P.R. to harbor the public opinion that the Bush Admin. can make fun of itself, or what. I also thought it was pretty funny that he had the entire dinner sit through his little tape of him auditioning for Press Secretary, and at the very end of that tape how he just shakes the President's hand and walks away, rather than kissing his ass and talking to him for a while, which is what most would do. EDIT EDIT: I thought I would clarify that this is not meant to be a personal political attack on DJ FC. We all know I can't debate for shit with him anyways. However; i've known DJ FC for quite some time, and it seems that if those videos were not targeted against Bush and the current adminstration, this type of humor would be right up his alley. Insulting others, either through subtlety or extreme (almost can be taken as serious by the untrained eye) sarcasm, is the kind of thing he usually enjoys, which is where my speculation comes from. If it is merely a matter of comedic preference, then so be it, but I have my doubts. |

Ummmm, if I was how you describe me as being, why would I have liked Kanyes remarks more?
Jesus you guys just love to take everything I say and make it a construct of "who I am" so it doesn't matter somehow. I'm fucking sick of it. For as much as you fucks would love to say otherwise, I am more or less open-minded and am extremely intelligent. I recognize good arguments when I see them. But emotional arguments are personal attacks (which make up 90% of all garbage spewed out of college students' mouths) are worthless to me. What you fail to realize is that I only post things which are relevant. If somebody has already said something, I'm not going to make a 30 minute post saying "I agree." So nearly 100% of the posts I make are contrarian. Now, about Colbert: This has little to do with politics, and more to do with the fact that I simply cannot stand that kind of humor. It's the "Ooooooh look at me, I'm ignorant, but just ignorant enough to be gleefully funny." Fucking disgusts me. It reminds me of 14 year old girls. And for him to use this kind of humor to insult the president to his face leaves me with a foul taste in my mouth. Kanyes stunt was genuine. While I don't believe in his cause (I think W really does like black people), hell if he believes it then what he did was right... in a way. And I respect that. Colbert's "I'm dumb so it's funny" humor doesn't appeal to me. This has nothing to do about politics. He's just being stupid and I don't see how people think this is funny. For the record, I really do enjoy the Daily Show, but I hate Colbert's show. |

In finishing, if you don't like Stephen Colbert's sense of humor, then that's A-OK, but from what you've said I think that you simply don't understand it. He's not mimicking "14 year old girl ignorance" as you claim; he's taking a sarcastic approach to the view of our country, and, yes, exaggerating it quite a bit, but that's where the majority of his humor lies. I suppose you have to see through his extremely sarcastic facade to see the political points he tries to get across; yes, it can get quite ridiculous at times, but I don't see how someone like you can look at him and be like "he's so immature." The genius of his humor is being able to be almost fanatically devoted to his mission statement (America, freedom, protecting Bush), but at the same time making fun of it in it's purpose. At least I think it's hilarious. As do his average of 1.1 million total nightly viewers, which isnt bad for a generally obscure show that's been out less than a year. "I don't believe you" "eleven" "one-hundred" "seven" I can't think of any other examples right now, but if you look at them, aren't you doing the exact same thing? Acting ignorant for the sheer humor value?

OK this is fucking retarded.
This isn't about whether kanye's argument was emotionally charged or not, whether I am going to argue with people who's arguments consist of pure emotion - no logic. And you aren't getting my point if you think I am claiming that my posts are always right. What I am saying is that you all think I'm closed minded because I only represent certain points of view. Well it just so happens that I have this nagging little personality trait where I'll defend just about any point of view so long as it isn't currently represented - but I've been accused many times of being closed minded when in fact I'd suppose if I really tried I would be the opposite. And Jesus Christ, do you think I'm so stupid as to think that Colbert isn't smart? The man is a genius, but I don't appreciate that kind of humor when it comes to such serious topics. If his audience were all educated people who could laugh along (and honestly, purely laugh along), it would be a different story. But the fact is that his followers are mostly ignorant people who accept a joke on comedy central as 100% truth, it's painful to watch. It's only painful because of the lame-ass manner he approaches these topics. Sure you can like these shows, I laugh at Southpark - which approaches serious issues from a comical manner, but for some reason Southpark isn't as difficult to swallow because people don't honestly believe in the things southpark is saying. I know this may be confusing I have little time to eek out a well-written post. Let's please return to the videos, and stop criticizing DJ FC - he is very proud and when people insult him he becomes very, very irritable. |
