I'll be starting off by reviewing Sleeping Beauty.

Sandwiched between Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmations is Sleeping Beauty, Disney's 16th full length animated film. Being an older Disney film it still has a very fairy tale feel to it and it plays out like a story book. The story is about a Princess named Aurora (voice of Mary Costa)who is cursed by "the Mistress of all evil" Maleficent to prick her finger on a spinning wheel before the sun sets on her 16th birthday and die. The three good fairies counter this by weakening the curse so it only puts her to sleep, and she can be awoken from a kiss of true love. The cast of characters are generally underdeveloped and predictable. This seems to be a long running tradition for Disney Prince's and to a lesser degree Princesses. I would have to say Aurora is probably one of the most "cookie cutter" Princesses of all time. The three stronget characters of the film are the three fairies by far.

The animation is simple yet flows nicely and the arists do an excellent job at using color to set the tone of any given scene. The artists have a good feel for 14th century architecture and wardrobe and they pretty conditions up nicely compared to what they really were like.

Music has always been an important part in Disney movies, and while compared to today's standards this film doesn't match up it still has some very nice intstrumentals numbers. It also has a very strong song in "Once upon a dream" which I am actually learning to play on the violin right now. It is the main theme of the song and the lyrics are:
I know you
I walked with you once upon a dream.
I know you
The gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
Yes, I know it's true
that visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once
the way you did once upon a dream

The film was nominated for an academy award in 1959 for Score of a musical picture (George Bruns).

Overall I wouldn't place this in the top ten list but it was a stellar film for it's time and still enjoyable today.

I don't really know why I'm doing this. I must be really bored.

Robin Hood is the best, followed by The Great Mouse Detective and the Toy Stories.
