I spent a conciderable amount of time thinking whether to even make this post (as it seems raves are rarely recieved positively on nubblies, such as my SUV rave), but what the hell. If you don't like what I have to say, then quit reading the post. If you have a differing oppinion, please state reasons for holding this oppinion.
Ok, well it's time for me to unravel DJ FC's pick as "The Greatest Restaurant Ever" Subway. I have eaten Subway subs more times than I have eaten my own mothers home cooking, they are that good. The curious thing about Subway, is the ability for one to eat them on a daily basis. I, for one, would eat at Subway once or twice a day for the entire summer and never feel the urge to eat anywhere else. That, in my mind, says something about the quality of the food. For my body to be able to consume this food day after day, and never feel the urge to eat somewhere else, or feel symptoms of mal-nutrition in some form or another is a testiment to the quality and ballanced nature of the food. What's more, I would only vary between 2 different subs! I urge you to try to think of some other food that you can consume on a consistant basis and not have your body reject. Everything gets old, hell... even La Bamba, Pizza, Burgers, grilled meats even they get old. But Subway, God's gift to fast food, Subway is the standard to which all other foods must measure. There is good evidence of this phenomina. Subway is the most popular franchise in the nation (dispite popular beliefe that McDonalds is the title holder). If you drive around and really pay attention, there are a fuckload of Subways out there. Hell, Bloomington has 5. I work all over South Bend and Mishawaka, and at pretty much any given time I would only be a couple blocks away from the closest Subway. OK, so maybe they are over-saturated. But this isn't the case, most Subways you find will be quite busy during meal hours, and are open earlier than most people believe (8am at some locations) so people can grab a sub on their way to work, or enjoy a sub for breakfast (Subway for breakfast really kicks ass). Well I have a tendancy to ramble a bit, so I'm going to rap it up. Subway is the Greatest Restaurant Ever! [ January 13, 2005, 05:58 PM: Message edited by: DJ FC ] |

Ya, I'll have to agree that Subway is a damn fine place to eat a meal everyday. If I had to eat at one restaurant for at least one meal everyday, Subway would be my choice as well.
I've consumed an assload of Subway in my life. Worked there for like a year and a half in high school and ate more than I worked. Great place. -Ugly Bastard |

Quiznos is incredible (and yes, expensive). I would rather eat at a Quiznos (or while we're at it, a Jimmy Johns) than Subway, if I was just going for one meal.
Two meals a day everday, I still say Subway. -Ugly Bastard |

I am eating subway as I type this.
Anyhow, Subway is pretty great. However, they are slow as fuck when compared to a place called "Jimmy John's". At Subway, the average foot long sub with an average amount of toppings might take about 2 to 4 minutes to make(depending upon employee and/or customer competence). At Jimmy John's, it takes no more than 30 seconds. It's pretty fucking amazing. I went there with one of my friends and he had just ordered a footlong sub. They had 2 people working, 1 making the sub, and the other ringing him up. The sandwich was done and wrapped before he got his change. That, my friends, is fucking fast. So why am I praising Jimmy John's, but presently eating Subway? Convenience. Subway is 1 minute away, where as Jimmy Johns is at least 10. This chart illustrates my point. |

You know, I'm glad you brought up Jimmy Johns because God Damn.
Not sure if I could eat it on a regular basis, well actually it's not possible because it's not Subway, but Jimmy Johns does make a damn fine sandwich. Oh, and your mom wants you to eat Jimmy Johns. |

Subway is the fucking mac shit! I used to get their chicken-bacon-ranch sub everyday. 12" with a medium drink for $1.29. (One of my friends used to work at subway, scammed the place, and stole 30,000+ sub stamps and cards.)
Personally I would agree that subway is the best somewhat-fast restaurant on earth. Their food is fresh, it's not dripping with grease, and it just tastes so fucking good. |

I love how people will buy anything put into comercials. Subway is "fresh." What a scam. I worked there a year and a half with the likes of UB, Pliedes, and George Sherman and let me tell you, it isn't all that fresh. I don't know what people expect after that comercial. Do they think there's a live turkey in the back that they slaughter every morning, or do they realize that it's a frozen turkey log that was made a number of months ago and frozen. "I mean, they slice the tomatoes right in the back." Sure they do, about a week before you actually have them put on your sandwich. Plus there is almost always three or four rotten ones in each box they get, so there are magots and mold that they pick around. I mean, if they knew what I did...they would never eat any of the tuna or seafood salad, I'll tell you that much.
I realize other places are no different, but that scam always bothered me. "Eat Fresh." If I'm that worried about eating fresh, I'm not going to any food chain, I'm going to the grocery store and making my own sandwich at home (which will end up costing about a buck or two a sandwich). |
