This is a topic we could debate for days. There have been so many good war movies made, that narrowing it down to just five is a travesty. However, we must press on.

Personally, the Vietnam War movies intrigue me more than any other war. The Vietnam War was so controversial, and the movies that have been made out of it are all really good.

Anywho, one and only one rule for this list: The Movies you put on your list have to be movies that are based on a real, actual War. So all the 'Behind Enemy Lines' out there do not count.

My List:

1. Schindler's List (WWII)
2. The Deer Hunter (Vietnam)
3. Full Metal Jacket (Vietnam)
4. Platoon (Vietnam)
5. The Bridge On The River Kwai (WWII)

One's that all could easily tie for 6th Place: Glory, Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, The Patriot, Apocolypse Now, All Quiet on the Western Front, Enemy at the Gates, Patton, Good Morning Vietnam.

Joe-

Perhaps Surveying the rules before making you decision would be wise.

Good call on Glory though. Denzel's finest hour.

And yes, you are correct on the Enemy at the Gates questions.

I loved The Patriot...

I haven't seen most of the older ones that you mention, maybe that's something I'll have to look in to.

1. Saving Private Ryan
2. Full Metal Jacket
3. Patton
4. Braveheart
5. The Dirty Dozen

Honorable Mention -
Good Morning Vietnam
Schindlers list, is good, but it's focused more on the jews than the war itself. It's still one of the best movies ever made though.

Another good one that many of you might not have seen is Zulu. It was made back in the 60's. It was made about a small group of British soldiers who fought an overwhelming Zulu forces, and well... they lost pretty badly, but they went down fighting. A great pick.

You know what I want to see? A movie made about the Battle of Thermopolaye. There was a graphic novel created called 300 that told the story of the slaughter in that battle, and damn it was awesome.

I think there were some rumors that it was being made into a movie, and I think that if written well and not made too melodramatic, it would make a fine ass movie.

Ok this might not be a movie, it is a series. Band of Brothers, so people I know who were in a war say that it is more real then any other movie. They said that some other ones were good but Band of Brothers was the best to them.
