Firefly the TV show was a steaming pile of shit ... the movie took the characters and did with them what the show failed to do for an entire season: make them matter. Unfortunately it took making a movie to make the show somewhat redeemable ... but they didn't do that until the show was canceled.
The good news is that the guy who played the captain is trying to buy the rights for the show so he can make it again.
