Does this sound like a religion which is strictly against gay marriage?

Your friend was just an idiot. Of all the major religions, the Catholic church is the most hip to not being right-wing and ignorant (except for contraception but they are working on that)

Most of it involves me vaguely mentioning something I don't like about religion and then Nubblites getting pissed off at me about it, calling me a militant atheist and intolerant, forcing me to defend myself. For the record, i'm tolerant in that I don't want to hate/kill religious people, but I certainly don't have to respect/be friends with those I don't want to. Most religious people are idiots, and I have no desire to be friends with idiots.

FWIW, I have a couple very intelligent religious friends who I absolutely intellectually respect even though I think they're a bit misguided. They are in the 99th percentile of the religious.

	The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them.
