...and the World Basketball Championship. You know, the one that the Team USA finished 6th place in last time (2002). You have to remember that every "American" sport consists of a huge amount of foreigners. I read a stat that in 2002, there were 50 NBA players that played for other countries.

50 NBA players out of how many? Let's say just 10 players per team. I have no idea how many teams there are, but if there are 10 per team, that's 300 players. And if only 50 of them are foreign, then that means 250 of the best players in the world are American. I'd put money on those odds any day. Even at half that I'd lay down money for the good ol' boys.

I'm not sure what all that was about...the point is that there is a World Basketball Championship (besides the Olympics) every four years, and in 2002, the US came in 6th. I then pointed out that a lot of good NBA players played for their native countries instead of the US.

Well I had never heard of it... did good NBA players play for the US? (The best players with a few exceptions are still American)

Don't get me wrong, I have faith in American athletics, I just have more faith in American economics...

[start rant] It appears that economics and athletics go hand in hand. Which is why some prefer collegiate sports. Even they want to get paid. What is the world coming to? [end rant]

tongue is correct. There are World basketball Championships. And even though many of the basketball players come from other countries, the majority is better for American players in the league at this time. So I think that the NBA can claim to be World Champions, but not live by it. They will just be NBA Champions.

What is the world comming to? Show me anything (besides religion, and even that is sometimes influenced) that isnt completely run, or at least prodded along, by money and I will have a new outlook on life.

Actually, the last time that Rugby was played in the Olympics, The United States won. So that would make them the remaining world champions until Rugby is played in the Olympics again (that is if they ever put it back in the Olympics). Right?

Yeah, that could be true, but most people would agree that the aussies are the dominant force in rugby.
