You can get an 8 of the Ryan rookie for ~$1,000-$1,300 which is a really sick card. A 9 is more like $7k. There's never been one graded a 10. If there ever was it'd be a six-figure card possibly.

When I was a tot, I would read the Beckett Basketball guide like gospel (the prices alongside the articles). Without fail, I focused on in two cards each issue: The most expensive card in the guide (and the card continues to be the most valued) the 1948 Bowman George Mikan card, and, perhaps the most recognizable basketball card, the 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan Rookie:



While the Mikan card is obviously too expensive to even consider in good condition, the Jordan in good condition can be had for ~1.5k. Adding in the fact that it will hold or increase in value + the fun of the hunt looking for a good deal, and the right opportunity could make me jump.

Even if I never do, though, I do know that simply talking to UB a bit about this on gchat has led to me burning hours scouring ebay for various cards. This...this is addicting.

I have a set of 24k gold Nolan Ryan cards, including his rookie card, in mint condition. The collection includes a baseball card from each team he played on throughout his career. My parents bought it for me and my brother about 15 years ago for ~$100. Not sure what it would be worth now, but similar collections are going for $1,600 online.

What do you mean by 24k gold? Like the cards are gold reproductions of his actual cards? If so that's really dumb and anyone who pays more than 25% of that thing's weight in gold is a chump.

Meaning, I think the value of gold is overpriced right now, in a reaction to a fear of world economic collapse. The economies in the world are stable right now and I expect gold to drop about $100 per ounce over the next several months.

I agree with f3lix on some of the things he said. I think we're kind of seeing a mini "bubble" in gold right now due to the recession fears. Gold probably is overvalued right now, but I think the mispricing will continue for awhile before the bust.

I did. I put money back in the stock market several months ago, after withdrawing it due to fears of instability. Just because the stability level isn't what it was 10 years ago or 5 years ago doesn't mean it's stable in its bottom line. This is stable as it will get for at least another decade.

Good ol' Carnival Splendor. The very same one that broke down a couple weeks ago. Stops are Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo.

You'd think so, but no. I think they're banking on the ship not breaking down this time. They had to give everyone on the ship full refunds and a free future cruise. Not a good financial moment in Carnival history.

Just picked up tickets to a Sharks vs. Kings game on the 27th. I've never been to a hockey game before, this should be awesome.

Hockey games are probably the funnest live sporting event to go to. I used to go to minor league games. It's pretty intense and you can talk shit to the opposing players pretty easily. We pissed off one guy on the bench so bad, he immediately checked the shit out of somebody and got in a fight once he went back out.
