Jury convicts man who impregnated girl, 12, he thought was his daughter

SAN FRANCISCO - A man was convicted Tuesday of abusing and impregnating a 12-year-old girl he incorrectly believed to be his daughter, according to the district attorney's office.

After a three-week trial, jurors convicted Eviele Seuseu, 39, of various sexual assault charges. He faces a sentence of life in prison. Sentencing is set for Dec. 1.

Seuseu was arrested in October 2004 after the girl's grandmother took her to the hospital because she was gaining weight. After it was revealed the girl was 33 weeks pregnant, she revealed that her father had sexually abused her, prosecutor David Merin said.

After the baby was born, DNA testing revealed that Seuseu was not the girl's biological father, Merin said.

The victim, now 14, and her daughter are living in foster care.

A call to Seuseu's attorney wasn't immediately returned
