Nope. I stopped watching cause I couldn't get over how whiny the kid was. Great concept though, would love to see a sort of post-apocalyptic-defending-the-world-from-aliens-with-megabots TV show picked up by one of the networks here in the US though.

Great show. Made me want to bang a robot Evans Rachel Wood, and think about becoming an android pimp. Somebody's gotta do it! Really looking forward to tonights episode. Really liked all of the misdirection.


I just started watching House of Cards. A bit late, but it's difficult for me to get into political dramas after every middle-upper class white person I know popped a boner for the West Wing. The show is really charming and entertaining. The depth of the characters as well as the portrayal of some who are being completely honest/naive individuals totally getting played and the high-level players like Underwood (as far as "life is a stage"...) is really incredible.

I just finished Narcos a couple weeks ago. Absolutely fantastic. Currently half way through Luke Cage and thoroughly enjoying it too.

Nature has been able to produce "machines" that experience things. I have no reason to believe Nature (us) can't also create machines that experience things, eventually.

Edit : I agree that we will create things that experience things, we can create a super-experiencer.

I just don't think that you can do it with digital computing, or moulding it out of clay (if you take out all the organic compounds out of the clay)

True, I think it's just semantics.

We create tools, then mold ourselves to the use of them. Reality isn't some thing in front of us on a proscenium stage; it's a movable feast. Now you're a neural net. Now you're an information system.

So you suspect it is something about organic compounds/biological matter is the key to consciousness? That is very interesting if so because I don't think I have seen the question structured this way. That is a very legitimate argument I think.

If that is true, you would have to admit there is some kind of a "magical" element to biological/organic matter that allows for consciousness to develop.

Monistic idealism holds that consciousness, not matter, is the ground of all being. It is monist because it holds that there is only one type of thing in the universe and idealist because it holds that one thing to be consciousness.

But also a physicalist, I don't think any "element of reality" missing from tomorrow's physics and their solutions.

"Physicalism" is sometimes treated as the formalistic claim that the natural world is exhaustively described by the equations of physics and their solutions.

I think the equations of physics describe fields of consciousness completely


As DP said earlier the properties of carbon and water might be the only thing capable of "phenomenal binding" binding is not well understood but I'll try again to explain it sometime.. William James first thought of it. not that carbon and water are the only thing that are capable of being experiential.

One thing exists, it's consciousness, it's (mathematical properties are?) described exhaustively by physics.

The Witcher is pretty fucking fantastic. Helps if you’ve read the books or even played the Witcher 3, which btw, is a fucking incredible video game if you aren’t gay.
